It was gradual. Over many years they came to our State from all over the North East primarily. There was no specific event.
I’d say if we want to blame a specific event it would be the annual nationally televised January first Rose Parade, and Rose Bowl. All those people sitting freezing their butts off in the North East would see the Winter Sunshine, the palm trees, the pretty girls in shorts in January, and they’d load the wagons.
About a couple of months after the Rose Parade we’d see all kinds of East Coast license plates all over Southern California.

Cali became utopia not only to the nation, but to the world.
And, utopias this side of Eden do not tend to last very long.
You are right. It was gradual. Most of the Californians who voted for Reagan gradually died and were replaced by illegal immigrants who vote.
Blaming the northeast types from emigrating to CA....(now NV,ID and TX blame the new arrival Californian socialists from moving in and bringing their Commie votes with them. True!
