12 Monkeys is one of my favorite movies. Also, the odd French film Le Jettee which provided inspiration for it.

There's a documentary on Netflix "Unnatural Selection" where a GED educated guy in Mississippi is using CRISPR in his garage to genetically edit some dogs he is breeding. Apparently obtaining the tools necessary to make any genetic modifications desired is not too hard.
You would think it would have happened by now. People move around more than ever in the last 50 years. I wonder if the general decrease in malnutrition and vitamin deficiency also plays a part. You see pictures of the poorest folks like refugees and it seems like a lot of them are healthy and well fed. Then look at pictures of refugees from 100 years ago, different story.

My question is if it is so deadly why haven’t we had another world wide pandemic? Maybe there is more to a pandemic then just a virus or ease of travel. Could it be population density?
I don’t know but isn’t that why we have a public health department in our government, to plan for this type of thing?
A recent documentary on TV said if there is a worldwide pandemic the developed countries will be the worst hit due to the huge amount of travelers easily passing on the disease at airports.
3rd world, rural nations with limited travel will in many cases survive unscathed.
