Yep, Looper with more action scenes, and without Bruce Willis. Not that I’m negative on Will Smith, but I think his days of making a grand 5-star movie are mostly over.
They will make it up in DVD and PPV sales.................
I think a certain percentage of the public has finally worked out that Will Smith’s schtick is as repetitive and limited as Adam Sandler’s.
Smith bobs his head violently while spitting out dialogue (of a sort). In this film the numbing effect is merely doubled.
There are those who suggest that the days of big stars guaranteeing big box office are over. Also, Will Smith’s star may have begun to dim.
I only saw I think one ad for this... Have seen far more about it flopping than I saw about this coming out... looked reasonable from the ad... so I wonder about the marketing.
Will Smith is not anyone’s favorite actor. Made a couple of crappy movies and that’s it.
Disney’s Maleficent bombed as well.
It’s really weird how marketing and even the name of a film can affect popularity. I was fascinated back in the day to find out that Point Break (One of my all time favorite movies) bombed because of the name.
As someone that doesn’t see ads (no tv) and doesn’t go to theaters any more, I find some occasional gems that bombed at the box office, but are really great movies. Another one that I discovered on Amazon Prime about a year ago is John Carter. This is another one that apparently was hurt by its name. And it was VERY expensive to make, and it shows. It is an amazing film, and yet...
What’s happened to Will Smith
Will Smith plays the same character in all his movies , YAWN
I like Will Smith as an actor. I like most of his movies.
Now his WIFE, and can’t stand. And how they raised their children is just ridiculous.
The kids pretty much grew up with no boundaries and thinking the world revolves around them.
I was very mildly interested in seeing this movie. Then I saw a video of an action scene with a motorcycle in it, and it was so hilariously stupid, I just wrote it off. Maybe there is a book that would be more entertaining?
I personally know the marketing guys from the studio. Asked them one time, “Ok why is WM’s face on the poster? Nobody knows what it’s about..”
Someone told me (high up in the studio) that Will Smith WANTED his face on the poster. Not Ang Lee etc.
Mrs. Crusher and I went to the movies at Flix Brewhouse recently. They serve pretty good food, beer, and wine while you relax in comfy seats. The evening usually ends up costing about $75 (that is movie, dinner and drinks). Not too expensive, but not something we do on a whim.
Because of this, and that it has spoiled us for “regular” theaters, we now save going to the movies for blockbusters only.
Combine this with AppleTV movies, Netflix and other streaming services, our movie going is way down.
In fact, as we see commercials or trailers for upcoming movies, my wife and I now comment “Flix” or “Netflix” to denote whether it is theater-worthy or not.
While both of us thought the Will Smith film looked interesting, when we saw the trailer we both looked at each other and simultaneously said “Netflix”.
This film was made partially in Savannah, and, some scenes were filmed in the marina we lived in there including a fight scene in a hut they built on the dock). It was entertaining to watch what they did, and, I got to chat with either Will Smith’s stand in, or, the guy who played his younger self (if he wasn’t cgi). Either way, he was interesting to talk to.
Some of our neighbors had there boat in the movie, and, got to chat with Will Smith. They say he was a nice guy around them.
