Ang Lee's action thriller starring Will Smith was sidelined by bad reviews and the staying power of 'Joker.' Not even an Oscar-winning director and one of the world's most popular actors could save Gemini Man from getting bumped off at the box office.
Ang Lee's VFX-heavy film, starring Will Smith, faces losses of $75 million or more after opening to $20.5 million domestically over the Oct. 11-13 frame and finishing Sunday with an anemic worldwide total of $118.7 million, according to sources and box office analysts. Hopes were high that Gemini Man would make up ground and open to strong numbers in China. Instead, it launched to just $21 million over the weekend, coming in behind Maleficent: Mistress of Evil ($22.4 million) in a surprise upset.

Mrs. Crusher and I went to the movies at Flix Brewhouse recently. They serve pretty good food, beer, and wine while you relax in comfy seats. The evening usually ends up costing about $75 (that is movie, dinner and drinks). Not too expensive, but not something we do on a whim.
Because of this, and that it has spoiled us for “regular” theaters, we now save going to the movies for blockbusters only.
Combine this with AppleTV movies, Netflix and other streaming services, our movie going is way down.
In fact, as we see commercials or trailers for upcoming movies, my wife and I now comment “Flix” or “Netflix” to denote whether it is theater-worthy or not.
While both of us thought the Will Smith film looked interesting, when we saw the trailer we both looked at each other and simultaneously said “Netflix”.
Yeah, you pay to see Joker at the Multiplex and then you sneak into Gemini Man with a fresh Tub of Popcorn.
This film was made partially in Savannah, and, some scenes were filmed in the marina we lived in there including a fight scene in a hut they built on the dock). It was entertaining to watch what they did, and, I got to chat with either Will Smith’s stand in, or, the guy who played his younger self (if he wasn’t cgi). Either way, he was interesting to talk to.
Some of our neighbors had there boat in the movie, and, got to chat with Will Smith. They say he was a nice guy around them.
Yep. Extremely-overrated. AND his weirdness of his family doesn’t help.
1) Daughter is weird
2) His cross-dressing son is even weirder.
3) His racist wife bragging about her private parts to the whole world. (this was on Yahoo).
I hope it becomes a Gene pick!
[Keanu Reeves]
Keanu Reeves was great as Keanu Reeves in that movie, with the girl from “The Net” with that girl from The Bus. /Frank Costanza, sorta, “Seinfeld”.
“The Bus that Had to go 55” - actually I enjoyed that movie. I’m sure they took that exit ramp at 55+ too when they were side-swiping all of those cars. Because .... movie said 55 or explode.
Keanu Reeves played an excellent Keanu Reeves in the Johnny Utah bank-robbing surfboard guy, too. (well, I’m not just going to type “Point Break” - that would be too easy!)
If you can get me $20-25 million for an action movie that bombs I promise to not demand to be on the poster.
I’ll just take my cash and be happy. Thanks in advance.
(just kidding, as usual)
I think he was in some sci-fi computer movie, too.
If I had his money, I would marry 3 Victoria Secret supermodels. Why stick with one? ;)
LOL
Get me my movie and In and Out is on me for a year!
LOL
I can’t wait for Will Smith to be cast in the next Matrix sequel and then fight 100 Agent Will Smiths. Wooohoooo!!!
I haven’t ever forgotten his wife with her “people of color” commercial.
To her, white is not a color.
