The former “CBS This Morning” host — who is getting paid at least $7 million a year by CBS News boss Susan Zirinsky to revive the perennially third-ranked newscast — is getting hammered in the ratings worse than her predecessors did. In the last week alone, O’Donnell’s total viewers plunged 17 percent to 5.1 million, according to Nielsen. Among viewers in the crucial demographic ages 25 to 54 that’s coveted by advertisers, the drop was a heart-stopping 25 percent. The slide has steadily accelerated during the past month, with weekly ratings in the key age group falling between 20 and 29 percent versus a year ago. That’s far steeper than the single-digit drops during the year-and-a-half tenure of her predecessor Jeff Glor, who was pulling down $2 million a year, according to a source. “This is definitely unusual,” said television analyst Andrew Tyndall. “I don’t see any prospects of ‘CBS Evening News’ getting out of third place, but an honorable third versus a dismal third is possible.” It’s a troubling sign for CBS, whose evening newscast has been stuck in third place since the tail end of Dan Rather’s tenure, which ended in controversy over his reporting about President George W. Bush’s military service.

I cannot remember the last time I watched an evening newscast. Must be decades now. I only watch local news for traffic and weather.

Unless you are captive in an airport terminal or something, I can’t name 5 people I know in that age group that watch any network news.
Also, 91 year old women like my mom who does not have cable TV.
Look at their commercials. They are all Drug ads. All are focused on the 60+year old market segment.
I like to watch the local ABC affiliate here in NH in the morning. They mostly tell local news stories, sports and weather. However, as soon as GMA comes on, I switch to Fox because I can not stand George Snufullopugus.
The MSM could reverse a lot of their ratings woes by becoming fair and balanced. But I guess they are OK to continue to lose money and be a laughing stock.

Local news here in (more urban areas) CT is murder, robbery, etc.
It is unwatchable because they spend most of their time trying to pretend they don’t know anything about the perps. ;-)

Meanwhile, in REAL NEWS, the latest Harris Poll of Trump’s Approval Rating, shows that 35% of AFRICAN AMERICAN MEN APPROVED of the Trump performance. And in the Louisiana Governor’s race last week 25% of AA voters voted for a Republican.
Reporting THAT NEWS would create buzz but they’re just too stupid to go there.
IF they really want to increase ratings, they should just hire bimbos like on the Hispanic TV stations.
Make them wear skin tight clothing with their boobs hanging out.
Better yet, have them start the show dressed, and remove one piece of clothing during each segment. That way people would not change the channel. They really would stick with them for BREAKING NEWS.
That is really the only reason to watch. They are nothing but readers anyway, so if they aren't eye candy, why bother watching? Here in Houston on channel 2, we have a really cute traffic girl and news reader on the morning news show.
That is what amazes me. They see that their ratings are tanking. CNN sees that Fox News constantly beats their ratings. You would think the president of the news division would get a clue that this yellow journalism just does not sell to mainstream America. They all must just live in a vacuum of the upper West Side of Manhattan.
In the late ‘80’s I used to turn on the national news while working out on the exercise bikes. It made for a good workout because the madder I got, the faster I turned it up. Then I was rebuked for my language....
