Are you distrustful of the coverage of what is happening now in northern Syria between the Kurds and the Turkish army? You have good reason to be.
ABC aired supposedly shocking footage Monday morning purporting to be from the frontline battle between the Syrian Kurds and the invading Turks. The only problem is the footage appears to come from a nighttime demonstration at the Knob Creek Gun Range in West Point, Kentucky.
After seeing a comment from Wojciech Pawelczyk, I began making some calls. As of this writing, it appears that this video is a hoax, and ABC has pulled it down.
"We are still investigating," a representative for the gun range told the Washington Examiner Monday, adding the images aired by ABC "looks to be" from the Kentucky property.
"As of right now," the spokesperson added, "it seems to be our footage."
A spokesperson for ABC conceded it made a big mistake.
"Weve taken down video that aired on 'World News Tonight Sunday' and 'Good Morning America' this morning that appeared to be from the Syrian border immediately after questions were raised about its accuracy," a spokesman told the Washington Examiner."ABC News regrets the error.
This video, obtained by ABC News, appears to show the fury of the Turkish attack on the border town of Tal Abyad, senior foreign correspondent Ian Pannell, who is in Syria, said Monday on Good Morning America.
As he spoke, ABC aired footage showing undisclosed gunmen firing tracer bullets at undisclosed targets, causing massive, fiery explosions. Furious stuff indeed.
Earlier, on Sunday, ABC News anchor Tom Llamas also aired the allegedly shocking footage, claiming it showed a fierce Turkish attack on Kurd civilians.
The situation rapidly spiraling out of control in northern Syria. One week since President Trump ordered U.S. forces out of that region, effectively abandoning Americas allies in the fight against [the Islamic State], he said.
Llamas then described the video as it aired on-screen.
This video right here appearing to show Turkeys military bombing Kurd civilians in a Syrian border town. The Kurds, who fought alongside the U.S. against ISIS. Now, horrific reports of atrocities committed by Turkish-backed fighters on those very allies, he added.
The intro to the show he anchored, ABC World News Tonight, also claimed of the footage: A border town, bombarded by Turkeys military!
The footage would indeed be stunning were if actually from northern Syria. It would be horrific were it actually to show a Turkish assault on Kurd civilians. But it does not show that. The footage, which appears to be from 2017, shows American gun enthusiasts putting on a terrific pyrotechnic show for their audience in Kentucky. In fact, the Machine Gun Shoot and Military Gun Show, which involves the very popular night shoot, is an annual event at the Kentucky gun range. People love the show. They love it so much, in fact, that they record it and post footage of it to social media. Videos such as this:
It is hard to see how this footage went to air as it did with no one at ABC questioning or catching that it might not actually be from northern Syria.
Note that the sequence and shape of explosions is identical in the ABC and Kentucky videos, as are some of the features of the terrain amid the explosions. But we might actually be dealing with two different videos of the same Kentucky live-fire event from slightly different angles. In the independent film of the live-fire event in Kentucky, you can clearly see taller objects in the foreground that seem to appear as silhouettes in the ABC footage.
ABC: “We’re incredibly sorry footage got interspliced from our documentary “Rednecks have more firepower than Kurdish rebels; why we need gun control”.
At least they didn’t need to dress anyone up as Muslims and hold up signs this time.
Classic yellow journalism.
You provide the pictures, Ill provide the war...
Appears
Their corporate offices might as well be in P’yongyang.
Ah, the old Dan Rather defense. Remember how that turned out?
It’s an annual event, people come from all over the southeast to show off their guns or get the chance to shoot one if you’re not lucky enough to have one.

The “media” has always had an agenda, and lying to push that agenda is considered noble. The crime is getting caught.
They’ll have to dig up some old ‘Green Helmet’ showing Syrian dead babies again.
To me it seems that in the broadcast there’s way too much awareness and claimed detail than can be excused as a mistake. Somebody definitely tried to knit this into a well-developed hoax.
ABC is seemingly trying to excuse themselves as if it was thrown into their offices over some transom. I’m not buying that at all.
It’s probably the case that not every news reader was in the know, but someone with corporate decision authority purposely changed their standards to let this through. One doesn’t do that unless you’re willing to be be the source of a hoax.
Like David Gregory, he's an insult to guys named David.
Maybe James O’Keefe and project Veritas provided the video to see if ANY fact checking was going on?
Hey, they tried. Remember as nuzzlin’ joe said, they have chosen truth over fact so there is that.
Fox News or somebody needs to replay this video and inform the anti-gunners who fear people with AR-15s, that these are 50 caliber full auto machine guns owned by law abiding Americans in conformance with 2A, not a single one of these high-powered weapons has ever been used by a law abiding owner in the commission of the crime.
In other words, it is the criminals baby, not the guns they use!
IT SHOULD BE CLEAR THAT ABC IS LYING LIKE DOG $HIT ON A RAINY DAY.
The famous picture taken during the bombing of Kosovo and described as an old man looking out from behind bars of a Serbian concentration camp won the Pulitzer Prize that year. It was actually a man standing OUTSIDE a compound of some sort and looking in. Nothing new from the Fake News media.
AOC crying while looking at a parking lot.
Of course, but the RATS and their media allies are also pushing gun control. Since ABC got caught using a fake video in their news, it is a good lead in to explain just what that video is, and to show the immense firepower that law abiding people can be trusted with and to underscore the history that nobody ever went on a mass shooting with these legal arms. That is all I was saying.
I was a bit off topic, but it relates due to ABC using that video. Rather than just say “dirty liars used false clip” I would go on then and explain just what that clip is and how it is a bunch of law abiding people having good clean fun exercising their 2A right and UNDERSCORE the safety of it and contrast it with so called “assault rifles”. In other words, if law abiding people can be trusted with .50 cal machine guns, an AR 15 is a cake walk.
It would be a missed opportunity for Fox or One America News if they didn’t flesh out what the video is and how it defies the arguments of the gun control crowd.
I got that ABC is lying. That is pretty clear in the title and in the post.
It would be a good bet to assume any image designed to play on your emotions rather than facts is fake.
Of course using images to sway public opinion is not new, it has been going on for centuries (at least).
They are just ahead of the “Deep Fake” curve which will result in everyone losing confidence in everything that is presented by the media. In a few years what is put out by the MSM will be treated like email from Nigerian scammers.
