But if may not be like they suggest.
Blame the busybody neighbor who called the insta-shooters aka cops.
Was she playing video games when she was shot, or was she outside the house at 0230?
What happened?
LOT’S OF NONE NYT OPEN ACCESS SITES!
And the shooter only got 10 years? wth?
I have read a few articles on this and it is sad and tragic. The officer that shot the lady needs to pay. The family needs to be compensated. Training needs to be done. This was uncalled for. They could have knocked on the door...announced their presence...a whole myriad of things they could have done and this Auntie would still be alive. I know the NYT is painting a story here...but in the end, this was an uncalled for shooting.
I remember that video of the police shooting a guy in a hotel lobby. They yelled out conflicting commands...and then shot him. His crime? He had purchased a new bb gun and was showing it to his girlfriend in the room. Someone had seen the barrel of the gun from outside and called the cops. Of course it was a good shoot. I imagine this one too, will be labelled as such...as the officer no doubt feared for their life...
I have a brother in law on the Fort Worth Police Department.
He has convinced himself that everyone in some parts of town is part of the drug trade. He’s scraped through several internal affairs investigations, and eventually his friends won’t be able to cover his ass when he screws up.
This isn’t the one officer. This is a behavior widespread in this particular police department.

There is a framegrab from the officer’s bodycam just before the shot. It was at point blank range, maybe 2 feet. His gun was about a foot from the window and she was at the window, looking out. I imagine both shooter and victim were startled, but there is no excuse for the shooting.
Unfortunately, the cops entered the backyard with the mindset that they were in the midst of a violent crime. In that mindset, the officer was bound to shoot the first person he saw. Amber Guyger had that same mindset when she entered the wrong apartment and shot Botham Jean.
Cops should not be shooting people through windows without knowing what’s going on.
The action of the police, shooting that poor woman, is horrible and inexcusable.
in case you are wondering, the police training and hiring is at fault.
Basically, Police are trained that if anybody is within 20 feet (even unarmed) they are a physical threat, and can be defended against by deadly force.....because the gap can be closed BEFORE you can draw your weapon.
All this was popularized by a non-police officer.
He mistook the Xbox controller for Browning Automatic Rifle. That will be the the defense if the prick is actually charged.
Seriously, there is something radically wrong with American policing. This shit happens all too often. Probably started with “war on drugs”. Blacks aren’t the only ones über pissed with this crap. Police departments tend to be run by incompetent political hacks and the incompetency trickles down through the ranks. Too many homicidal maniacs running around with badges and guns.
I have personally experienced the chore of finding good people. Technicians are easy to find, good ones are not. Teachers are everywhere, good ones are sparse. Go to a restaurant, how was the service? Notice every once in a while you get lucky and get a good server. The list goes on. What makes you think it is any different for the police?
I live here, born and raised. It was a bad shoot, no doubt about it. The cop should be tried for murder.
But the fallout over this will be anything but commensurate. It will be used as currency for more “hate whitey” rhetoric. The race hustlers are licking their chops.
Fort Worth Police Officer Fatally Shoots Woman Inside Her Home
I heard gunshots and came out of my house with my gun’ Someone came through my hedge carrying a rifle. I didn’t shoot. Turns out he was a neighbor I didn’t know going after a raccoon. If I would have shot him I would have more justification than this cop. but I would have less legal backup than him. Cops are civilians, just like us. They need to be held to the same standards..
This is what happens when you continue to allow freedom to kill unarmed people under the color of law just because they “saw a movement, or feared for their life.” Too many cops think they are immune from careless mistakes and they are correct in most cases. Cases where a civilian would be convicted.
