FORT WORTH Minutes before she was shot and killed by a Fort Worth police officer, Atatiana K. Jefferson was playing video games in her bedroom with her 8-year-old nephew, a lawyer for her family said Sunday.
Ms. Jefferson, 28, was proud of being the cool auntie to her siblings children, and had stayed up into the wee hours of Saturday morning with her nephew, Xbox controllers in their hands, according to S. Lee Merritt, the familys lawyer. But the pair grew concerned around 2:25 a.m., he said, when they heard rustling outside the house and saw flashlights.

The action of the police, shooting that poor woman, is horrible and inexcusable.
But he won't. He'll skate--just like the cops who killed Daniel Shaver in Arizona and the ones who shot two women delivering newspapers in Torrance, Calif. in 2013.
Don’t blame the neighbor, who called the police for a welfare check.
The police is the one who gets the blame for shooting without checking.
in case you are wondering, the police training and hiring is at fault.
Basically, Police are trained that if anybody is within 20 feet (even unarmed) they are a physical threat, and can be defended against by deadly force.....because the gap can be closed BEFORE you can draw your weapon.
All this was popularized by a non-police officer.
If all that is true, this "officer" needs to hang the Texas way: rope & a tree.
He was not a busybody but a good citizen who probably had the old and now outdated idea that police are responsible public servants.
You don’t think her family would appreciate a little help?
The family will have financial consequences.
As for the cop, he should get 25 or 30 years at a minimum.
If you had fired the shot, the prosecution would have contended that a person on the other side of a wall is not a a threat until they are breaching the wall.
Many a person has gone to prison for shooting through a door at someone on the outside of that door.
1. Stupid Cop
2. Bad Shoot
3. Cop and Fort Worth will pay heavily. Fort Worth will pay much money and the cop will pay with much time in jail.
I like cops and the vast majority are the good guys. However, it does make me wonder about the quality of Fort Worth Cops relative to their training. I have no idea if it is good or bad.
The Austin police force is the odd man out. Austin is very liberal and run by idiots of the left. However, Austin has an extremely professional cadre of cops. They are firm, they are polite and men of extremely good training and judgement. They do not make bad shoots.
“All this was popularized by a non-police officer.”
Who?
Blame the busybody neighbor...
You can if you want to. Im gonna blame the ***hole who pulled the trigger.
L
Problem there, it is extracted from the taxpayers, who, it should be pointed out, did not shoot this lady. What good does that do? Nothing, thats what.
Taxpayers funded this policeman’s training and salary.
No, this time I would blame the frightened idiot that should never have been given a badge and a gun, oh and the moron that passed them on the psych exam. To bad it was recognized before someone died that they were not suitable for police work.
He mistook the Xbox controller for Browning Automatic Rifle. That will be the the defense if the prick is actually charged.
Seriously, there is something radically wrong with American policing. This shit happens all too often. Probably started with “war on drugs”. Blacks aren’t the only ones über pissed with this crap. Police departments tend to be run by incompetent political hacks and the incompetency trickles down through the ranks. Too many homicidal maniacs running around with badges and guns.
“What other choice was there?”
After dark does add an evil twist to the scenario in this insane world.
I’ve gone out of my way to meet all of my immediate neighbors and give them my cell in case they need me or I need them. Stupid & naive tactic? IDK....
I don’t live in the hood either though.
I did it in slow motion. That's the way it looks alright.
.
Its been that way for years.
No, the public in Fort Worth does not deserve nor get sympathy for having to pay for the totally bumf♡@{ed department they haven't fixed.
The payout is earned.
There are a lot of people who should not be police. Good ones are hard to find.
The little town I have lived in for nearly twenty years has less than three thousand people. We have fired entire departments that were screwed up three times and some of those guys were pretty out there. You can't keep people around who screw up when part of the job is to carry loaded weapons.
In a civil rights lawsuit, the actor himself is sued. And, he can be sued for triple damages. The family can collect from the officers insurance company, and his days as a cop are done.
“Justified - The 21 Foot Rule”
Lol!
“...if anybody is within 20 feet (even unarmed) they are a physical threat...”
Even through a window?
