On Thursday, a Canadian law firm filed a notice requesting permission to launch a class-action lawsuit against Epic Games — makers of the incredibly popular video game “Fortnite” — on behalf of two parents in Quebec.
One parent claims in the filing that their 10-year-old son has been playing the game almost daily for months and becomes “very frustrated and angry” whenever the parent tries to limit his playing time.
The other parent says in the filing that their 15-year-old son “quickly developed an addiction to ‘Fortnite.'”
The lawsuit goes on to note that some “Fortnite” players “don’t eat or shower, and no longer socialize.”

He’d say “stop playing and go to bed”.
I’d consider the TERRIBLE option of not listening and I went to bed.
What they will show is that studies show that the same part of the brain is affected by heroin, food, sex, texting, video games, gambling, etc.

That does NOT mean heroin = food = video games = texting in terms of the damage it can do to you if you abstain.

You can use a PC to play a lot of games as well. To be honest the use of a video game console is a bit redundant giving the advances in computing technology, but consoles have exclusive titles to keep themselves going.
I was a kid in the 80s and 90s and people were complaining about their teenage son playing too much Quake or Unreal Tournament, but it’s on the parents to set limits. I guess it’s easier to get sucked in since gaming is a lot more mainstream and less of a geeky thing now than it was back then.
I stopped around my mid 20s for the most part because things like relationships and having a family are more important than keeping up to date with increasingly mediocre video games.

Being that the kid 15, i’m guessing that the parents provide the home and the computer and the the Fornite software as well as internet connection.
Now, would these same parents provide their 15 year old child with a 8-ball of cocaine, a small mirror and a straw?
If Fortnite is as bad as cocaine, why not just supply the kid with an 8-ball?
I used to hear this and worse about Dungeons & Dragons.
I’ve never been into such games, so not sure if there is much truth to either. I do know, anyone can become hooked on most any type of interaction, be it real or artificial.
First thing to go when that happens, is the desire for Social Interaction. People can even use daily exercise as a means for personal fulfillment. Some end of preferring exercise over sitting with a family member or friend.
In other cases, the object of fascination is their new Apple cell phone.
Parents’ fault...take away the f’ing phone for a few days or weeks, let the spoiled rotten little SOB learn about the outdoors, and he will be fine. The parents failed here, not the video game maker.

I remeber these kids in my freshman college dorm who did absolutely nothing but play D&D.
They did not go to class, they hardly ate and of course had no contact with women.
A couple of them could not separate their lives from the game.
The kids down the hall who were drinking, getting high and snorting coke had far better outcomes.
I realized at that time that these games were extremely addictive and that those with consoles (i.e. Playstation; Atari) were especially addictive. So we vowed never to bring those into our home. Now our kids did end up doing computer games but we never brought a console into the house and I think we were the better for it.
Speaking for myself, the last video game I played was back in 1995 and it was either Quake or Doom II.
During the 1980s, I did the Space Invaders, Pac-man, Galaxia, etc., but that took a lot of quarters at the arcade!
Back then, I used to hear some say that D&D was directly and deliberately influenced by Devil Worship.
I was never inclined to play with it anyway, but after hearing that rumor, I wanted zero to do with it. Just as a precaution. For the same reasons I no longer play with Quija Boards. Why take the risk?

Hint: That is not Fortnite’s problem. That is just too much hands-off parenting. Set the boundaries early. If you just let the kid play that much for that long he will set his own boundaries.
Maybe the problem is there is a lot of $$$$ to be won in professional gaming these days a lot of kids think if I just practice enough I can cash in on that dream.

Yup. Have 2 boys in college who are huuuuge gamers. But they don’t let it interfere with school work or their social lives.
We didn’t forbid them from playing games growing up, but it was only one of their many activities.
