CNN’s Jake Tapper Drew Today’s ‘Dilbert,’ and It Is Horrifying
Intelligencer ^ | September 23, 2019 | Brian Feldman

CNN’s Jake Tapper is many things. He’s a TV man, a person who says words in public. He owns multiple suits. He is overly concerned about people being mean to him on Twitter. That last point is relevant because Tapper has put aside his fear of getting mildly criticized in a public forum in order to flex his art skills by drawing today’s “Dilbert.” The text of the comic was, as ever, written by nth-dimensional-chess genius Scott “the Brain” Adams, and the original will be auctioned off to benefit a veterans’ charity.

Keane must have read the interview of Adams talking about being downsized at US West. “...manager said “nothing personal, but you got that other gig going on, so I decided to save a person that doesn’t ...”

Adams is a mediocre cartoonist - at best (I am better than he is). He readily admits this.

Adams also is, however, a First Rate humorist. (I could never get more than a chuckle from my closest friends on my own cartoons, no matter how well drawn. When I drew comics that lampooned the faculty of my law school in anonymous weekly cartoons published in the student newspaper, my best friend was the one who came up with the scripts).

Adams built a Dilbert empire with his insight into human nature and the workplace. His drawing is adequate to the task. Ironically, its simplicity becomes its strength because it doesn’t distract from the wit.

Tapper’s drawing style harkens back to the golden era of cartooning in the first decades of the last century. But he couldn’t do what Adams has done with Dilbert either.

Cause its not about the drawing, but the insight into human nature.

As Adams notes, Tapper (like him) has an unusually broad talent stack.

It also doesn’t make any sense.

Bingo. Folks tend to confuse smart/dumb, knowledgeable/ignorant, and wise/unwise.

One example: back in the 'dark ages' (when I was young ;^), I remember reading Domebook 1 & Domebook 2. Neat stuff! Geodesic domes were extremely efficient, in terms of the quantity of materials required to enclose space, and the use of smaller structural members. Definitely 'cutting edge technology", and the best thing out there, obviously, for building homes, whether in upscale neighborhoods or third-world countries! But guess what? There was no Domebook 3 - the author(s) named the next book in the series Shelter. Turns out, geodesic domes made absolutely crappy homes. As the author(s) noted, domes were "smart but not wise" (quoting from memory).

In a general sense, I've observed that liberals often claim to place great value on intelligence (real or purported), and education (whether the knowledge acquired has any practical application or not). But many liberal policies, which sound fine in theory, are absolute disasters in the real world. Liberal politicians may be smart, but few are wise, and that lack of wisdom (combined with the blatant dishonesty that has become endemic in Democrat political proposals), explains why the Democrats have essentially devolved into 'the geodesic dome party'...

“CNN’s Jake Tapper is many things.

He's an asshole.

Also a whiny fake concern troll (with his little five-year-old's frown) and he's a vicious lying CNN snake.

He's scum.

Hey that was a great post.

I wasn’t sure where it was going with the Geodesic domes :)

But then it flowed right into being an example of smart but not wise.

And that flowing into the ABSOLUTE definition of what dems are today was great.

Thanks

Yeah Adams is an interesting guy. He has some interesting things to say usually. When he fails he fails hard to the point he has no freaking clue what he said.

I’ll take your word for it about Tapper. I literally have not watched CNN since they became the “Clinton News Network” almost 30 years ago now ...

Comic strip artists will on occasion have a guest put their own spin on the artist’s characters, just for a lark. Usually it’s another famous comic artist. However, for whatever reason. Scott Adams allowed Jake Tapper to do a guest spot.

...an example of smart but not wise. And that flowing into the ABSOLUTE definition of what dems are today was great.

Unfortunately, it really seems to fit todays Dems. Their proposals all seem to go, "We're all gonna die unless you elect us, so we can require that your 'racist' & 'poluting' [healthcare/border/car/job/conventional house/etc] be replaced with 'smart' & 'green' [ObamaCare/open borders/govt guaranteed income/geodesic domes/etc]!" And of course, NONE of it would work as promised, and every single proposal would drop our kids & their kids even deeper into "tax slavery".

"Smart but not wise" seems an apt description...
