In light of the heavy backlash from fans and celebrities over rumors of a possible remake of The Princess Bride, What other movies stands on its on as a classic (those near perfect movies) that should not be bastardized in being redone?
1. Godfather 2. Back to the Future 3. Die Hard 4. Shawshank Redemption 5. Original Star Wars, especially Empire Strikes Back 6. Rocky
What else?
Ricky Bobby’s favorite movie...
While not a remake of Its a Wonderful Life the 2000 Nick Cage movie The Family Man borrows from many of the themes of Its A Wonderful Life and A Christmas Carol while being a completely original scrip. This movie is one of my top 20 favorite movies.

Pink Panther (although the sequels are all priceless)
Magnificent Men in their Flying Machines
Shane
A Day at the Races
Full Metal Jacket
Dirty Harry
High Noon
Dirty Dozen
The Producers
Jaws
All the Bond movies with Sean Connery
The Graduate
Young Dr. Frankenstein
Predator
To name a few.
Hilarious list you made there, since Godfather, Back to the Future, Die Hard, Star Wars, and Rocky all had sequels. I consider a sequel as a soft remake.
Braveheart
Fargo
Animal House
One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest
Psycho
Amarcord
Terms of Endearment
Apocalypse Now
E.T.
Rocky
Dr. Strangelove
Yellow Submarine
The Graduate
Cinema Paradiso
The Exorcist
How the West Was Won
Jaws.
The Professionals.
Redo Gettysburg!
All they really need to do is replace Martin Sheen!
Martin Sheen as Lee? Ruined the whole film for me! Every Lee scene I was saying to myself Sheen as Lee? Really?
Mel Brooks thought of adapting “Blazing Saddles” to Broadway, like “The Producers” and “Young Frankenstein”, but determined it just wouldn’t have been possible.
It would have made for a great Broadway musical though.
Now there was a boring movie...
I never was impressed by Hoosiers, just might not be the right audience. TKaM could be remade very well. Kid actors are better than ever. The hard part is getting somebody with Peck’s gravitas. Ian McShane though, I bet he could do it. He can play Odin after all.
Certainly Back to the Future should not be remade. but I think similar themed movies could be done with great effect. Time travel is fascinating and can produce tremendous storylines.
Face in the Crowd. It’s just too hot to touch in the modern culture and exposes the establishment media too severely.
What a dreadful movie.
It is a great film!
Probably Griffith’s best & most important role.
The problem with Godfather III was that Michael's transformation was just too much from the Michael in the first two Godfather movies, Pacino played him more like the Pacino of later movies. I just never believed it could be the same person.
Dirty Dancing.
