I am probably one of the few people who did not particularly like The Princess Bride. I had read the book, and even though they followed the book fairly closely, I think they emphasized humor over everything. The book was funny, too, but also thrilling. I think it was a mistake to cast Christopher Guest as one of the bad guys. He had no menace about him. I also did not care for the incomprehensible Andre the Giant as Fezzik. The problem was that the director was Rob "Meathead" Reiner. He got the humor but not the swashbuckling.

Its a Wonderful Life While not a remake of Its a Wonderful Life the 2000 Nick Cage movie The Family Man borrows from many of the themes of Its A Wonderful Life and A Christmas Carol while being a completely original scrip. This movie is one of my top 20 favorite movies.

They should remake Heavens Gate and bankrupt another studio. Serves them right.

Hilarious list you made there, since Godfather, Back to the Future, Die Hard, Star Wars, and Rocky all had sequels. I consider a sequel as a soft remake.

Redo Gettysburg!
All they really need to do is replace Martin Sheen!
Martin Sheen as Lee? Ruined the whole film for me! Every Lee scene I was saying to myself Sheen as Lee? Really?

Mel Brooks thought of adapting “Blazing Saddles” to Broadway, like “The Producers” and “Young Frankenstein”, but determined it just wouldn’t have been possible.
It would have made for a great Broadway musical though.

I never was impressed by Hoosiers, just might not be the right audience. TKaM could be remade very well. Kid actors are better than ever. The hard part is getting somebody with Peck’s gravitas. Ian McShane though, I bet he could do it. He can play Odin after all.

Certainly Back to the Future should not be remade. but I think similar themed movies could be done with great effect. Time travel is fascinating and can produce tremendous storylines.

Face in the Crowd. It’s just too hot to touch in the modern culture and exposes the establishment media too severely.

The Lion in Winter.
What a dreadful movie.

I agree that Godfather I and II cannot be made better but Godfather III should be remade. It was very disappointing in my view. The problem with Godfather III was that Michael's transformation was just too much from the Michael in the first two Godfather movies, Pacino played him more like the Pacino of later movies. I just never believed it could be the same person.
