In light of the heavy backlash from fans and celebrities over rumors of a possible remake of ‘The Princess Bride, What other movies stands on its on as a classic (those near perfect movies) that should not be bastardized in being redone?
1. Godfather 2. Back to the Future 3. Die Hard 4. Shawshank Redemption 5. Original Star Wars, especially Empire Strikes Back 6. Rocky
What else?

I probably would have included a comment to that effect in my original post had I not worked so desperately hard to forget that movie had ever been made.

I don’t care for the Princess Bride but many do. I was just using the recent upheaval over a possible remake of it to get discussion going about movies and remakes
ANY Mel Brooks movie. Can you imagine a re-make of Blazing Saddles today?
There are a number of movies on that list which will be impossible to duplicate, let alone improve on.
Most it won’t matter, and some can be improved.
Ben Hur. Oh wait, they remade that one and really screwed it up.
It was more like, "Ben Gay".
I wouldn't mind seeing Clooney replaced, but everyone else was wonderful -- Charles Durning is irreplaceable, and so is the MUSIC!!

All “classic” movies should NOT be remade. It’s like trying to recreate Woodstock after 50 years - can’t be done.

None. If somebody has a good idea go for it. The whole whine that remakes ruin the original is just hyperbolic BS. The original is still out there. And every once in a while the remake finds something.
Seven Samurai has been remade a bunch of times. And most of them are good.

There’s also no way today that they would have a princess needing to be rescued by a man, so the reason for the assault on the castle will have to be changed, likely Wesley or one of the other men will get captured when their screwball plan goes awry and it will take girl-power to get him/them back.
So this time it will be the princess who will lead the assault on the castle and of course even though she only weighs about 89 pounds, she will have no problem taking on and defeating multiple 250+lbs male guards in full knight body armor.
