Alex Trebek is returning to work as Jeopardy! host this week, nearly six months after revealing he had been diagnosed with Stage 4 pancreatic cancer.
The six-time Daytime Emmy winner (and Lifetime Achievement honoree) released a video (below) on Thursday afternoon announcing that his chemotherapy treatments are over and he is now on the mend.
Trebek shared his cancer diagnosis on March 6, saying, Im going to fight this, and Im going to keep working, he said. And with the love and support of my family and friends, and with the help of your prayers also, I plan to beat the low survival-rate statistics for this disease.
In late May, he offered an update on his treatment/health, saying that some of his tumors have already shrunk by more than 50 percent following chemotherapy, despite the disheartening survival rate for Stage 4 pancreatic cancer.
The doctors said they hadnt seen this kind of positive result in their memory, Trebek said at that time, adding that he cried tears of joy, not tears of depression upon learning the good news.
Season 36 of Jeopardy!, with Trebek back as host, premieres Monday, Sept. 9 in syndication.

Wow good for him. Praise God.
i’ll take 500 for recovery Alex..
Truly amazing God Bless him!
Prayers for Alex.
Alex Trebek is the closest we have to a hero on network TV!
Very happy for him and his family.
I like Alex and like to watch Jeopardy!
Goes to show what a positive attitude and prayer can accomplish, along with great medical treatment!
Wonderful! I’ve always liked him.
I personally know someone in my family who went thru 8 months of chemo and survived. Prayer and a damn sharp positive attitude. It was pretty much “cancer kills me or I kill it”.
Hang in there, Alex!
I auditioned for Jeopardy! earlier this year. It would certainly be fun to be on with Mr. Trebek.
Yeah. High Rollers.
Trebek on Jeopardy does a Fleming imitation to this day.
Same here.
Why don’t we ask Weird Al who the real Jeopardy guy is?
Pancreatic cancer presents no symptoms; it happens when it metastasizes to other organs and bones. Stage 4 is very advanced, and they use the Whipple Method to remove all the tumors and re-sect organs and bowels.
He’s very lucky to be alive, as it took Steve Jobs and Patrick Swayze and takes 50-60,000 others each year. I came real close to it, but it was diagnosed in 2017 as a benign cyst on the pancreas, cost me 131-lbs, and has taken 3yrs to semi-recover from.
God Bless him and his super-skilled surgeons.
Good!
I look forward to him resuming his feud with Sean Connery.
“What is good news for Alex Trebek and fans of Jeopardy?”
I’ll take “Private Sector American Healthcare” for $500, Alex, you lucky Canadian socialist bastard.
