Alyssa Milano is opening up about her personal experience with abortion.
The actress and activist, 46, who has been speaking out in protest as states pass restrictive abortion laws, shared her own abortion story in the latest episode of her podcast Sorry Not Sorry. Noting that one in four women in the U.S. will have the procedure by the age of 45, she revealed that she one of them and detailed why she elected to have the procedure two times in her early 20s.
In 1993, I had two abortions, Milano shared. I was in love for the first time in the breathless way you can only be in love when you are young. It was huge overwhelming even. It filled every part of living. It was a joyful and exciting and powerful time in my life.
While the Whos the Boss alum didnt say who her partner was, Milano fell in love with actor Scott Wolf that year while making Double Dragon. The pair moved in together months later after and became engaged just months after that.
Milano said she was on the pill because she knew she was not ready to be a parent as she pursued her career. Additionally, she was taking the controversial acne-fighting medicine Accutane, which is known to cause birth defects in pregnancies. And while she was using birth control, I. Still. Got. Pregnant, she said.
Milano talked about what an emotional experience it was for her, especially coming from a Catholic upbringing. But she knew she was not equipped to be a mother and so I chose to have an abortion. I chose. It was my choice. And it was absolutely the right choice for me.

She’ll be sorry one day.
You may not have been ready to have been a mother but somebody else was. You could’ve given them up for adoption.
Noting that one in four women in the U.S. will have the procedure by the age of 45,
That just cannot be true.
I know of no woman that is ever killed their baby, not a one.
It’s so easy to justify killing a life when something like an acting career hangs in the balance... < /sarc >
Maybe they lump all D&C’s in with the abortion statistic.
I know lots of women who’ve had D&C’s.
Lucky for her her mom didn’t have one. Maybe not so much for the rest of us.
She likely had one while she was a child actress. Explains a lot about her anger and depression.
Yes, sad case. Hope she comes around to accept both her need for God’s forgiveness and its ready availability to her.
D&C’s are very common and it’s important to distinguish that from a straight up abortion of a healthy child.
Every woman I know who’s had a D&C has been traumatized by it.
Milano is either a liar or has no soul. She needs serious prayer.
In love with herself....
“It was huge overwhelming even. It filled every part of living.”
Um...
Well, for YOU any way... and really, that's all that matters. The dead baby, the yearning mother waiting years to adopt, the loved ones denied the child's friendship, the hell with that.
What a generous, virtuous, person you are.
If she got pregnant on the pill, she wasnt always taking the pill.
I know women who’ve had (non pregnant) D&C’s as well. When you haven’t had a menstrual cycle for over a year (because of PCOS) the OB usually insists...
Yeah, she had to pursue her lucrative acting career, like showing her tits in Embrace Of The Vampire.
Au contrere, mon frere.
I personally know someone who got pregnant not once but THREE times while taking the pill. She lived next door to her mother (she was actually married) and took them at the same time every single morning over coffee at her mom’s. After the first baby her mother even set an alarm clock (it was in the 80’s) as a reminder just to be sure.
After the THIRD little boy in less than 5 years she told the OB to tie her tubes in a double knot and then burn them.
From reading this, I have no doubt her abortions have affected her deeply. She deals with this by trying to cover it with the justification its all about something else - politics, human freedom, whatever.
She has not come to terms with her abortions and the more she tries to push it away, the more “nuts” she will become.
