LG smart refrigerator used for tweeting by teen whose mom banned electronics
Fox News ^ | 08/14/2019 | Nicole Darrah

A teenager who claims her mother took her electronics away seemingly resorted to what might be the last imaginable place to tweet from: a refrigerator.

The plight of 15-year-old Twitter user "Dorothy" was noticed earlier this month after she kept tweeting about how her mom kept taking gadgets away from her, leaving her unable to tweet.

The account, which appears to function as an Ariana Grande fan page, posted a tweet on Aug. 4 that read: "im leaving forever. my mom took my phone. ill miss u all sm. im crying. goodbye."

Twitter, which shows where users' tweets are sent from, showed that the teen's tweet was sent from a Nintendo 3DS.

But later that day, Dorothy's mom seemingly noticed her daughter was tweeting from the gaming device, and announced on Twitter her account "will be shut down now."

Despite her mother's guidance, the teen did not give up. On Aug. 5, she tweeted from her Wii U — thanking everyone for their support in her quest to tweet, no matter the consequences. In a follow-up tweet from her Wii U, she wrote her mom was at work and she planned to try looking for her phone.

But on Aug. 8, Dorothy's predicament took another turn. Still without her electronics, the teen resorted to tweeting from her smart fridge.

"I do not know if this is going to tweet I am talking to my fridge what the heck my Mom confiscated all of my electronics again," she said.

I once told my refrigerator to fax me some halibut. At least I think that's what I told it.

This could be written into thrillers!

I wonder if my smart thermostat could be exploited in such a fashion.

I expect to read some day that an online refrigerator accidently launched ICBMs at Russia.

Why does the sun go on shining
Why does the sea rush to shore
Don’t they know it’s the end of the world
‘cause my Momma took away my smartphone

I’m with you, bgill.

What a lot of FReepers don’t realize:

1. If mom has gone to this extreme you can bet your bottom dollar there is a heck of a good reason for it.

2. This girl is being encouraged to break her mother’s authority for what...? Comments out to folks who really don’t give a da** about her.

3. This girl is being taught by folks that it’s perfectly fine to break authority’s instructions. Any FReepers been burgled/raped/assaulted? Guess what those folks didn’t start out big, they started out small, like this miscreant.

4. Unless she’s corrected early, the Lord help her future employers and you do know, don’t you, SHE COULD BE ANOTHER HILLARY.... in the making.

Idiots. And more idiots.

The only wi-fi enabled device I have is my basement sump pump.

It sends stats on duty cycles, main and backup pump functionality, and backup battery health.

Yeah, there's a push to put technology in places it doesn't belong.

I never had OnStar or any of those things on my vehicle. At some point, someone will figure out they can disable the vehicle if you're behind on payments.

During the last Google outage, a lot of people who had gone to "smart locks" couldn't get into their houses.

Agree. There are a few very useful applications for IoT technology. The rest are useless at best, and harmful to your health and privacy at worst.

I have seen tech hell. My smart terlit sends its results to my smart fridge, which wipes out my shopping list and sends one of its own to my grocery store, delivered by their drones. I come home to a fridge with no beer and full of green leafy vegetables. I hear the doors and windows all lock shut. In the background my smart exercise bike whizzes menacingly. There is no escape.

So LG the company tweeted to “free Dorothy”.

We have reached to point where a company is encouraging a teen to disobey her parents.
