Todays Cryptogram
CKRL LKA DAUDOA CRHL FG JAZI GFNDOA. LKAI CRHL RH RNAZFMR RG BUUW RG FLG DZUNFGA. ---QRZQRZR YUZWRH
You can find this little fun word game, to combat early dementia and senility in us baby boomers, in several daily publications.
The way it works is a letter stands for another letter. For example: AXYDLBAAXR is LONGFELLOW (does not apply to today's cryptogram).
Beware, the game is very addictive. If this is your first time, don't be intimidated.
PLEASE DO NOT post the answer in general comments, but DO post your time and any tips you might give the group on how you solve these puzzles as puzzle solvers love to hear how you made out.
You can certainly send your solution to my private reply, or if you need a hint for todays Cryptogram.
If you need a little help you can copy the cryptogram and paste it to Hals Helper below:
You can then work on the puzzle without using pen and paper.
Solution to our last puzzle:
ADVICE IS LIKE CASTOR OIL, EASY ENOUGH TO GIVE BUT DREADFUL UNEASY TO TAKE. ---JOSH BILLINGS
Maybe 1 min: 1st and second words by inspection, 3rd word by letter pattern off to the races.
Short words are the key again.
OOPS Sorry for posting a private reply in the open. . . Ive asked the mods to delete it. . . Did not intend to post a spoiler. Just too early in the morning. I should know better and should always check twice this early. Mea Culpa. . .
Swordmaker
No photo this time. Would have been a spoiler.
About 2 min. You’re right, third word was key for me.
5 1/2 minutes. Poor showing. But it all fell into place after Swordmaker’s subtle hint. ;)
Very true BUT today ‘the people’ want what is ‘promised’ TO THEM....
(in a broadbrush sense)
TERM LIMITS NOW!!!!!!
A couple guesses, then as fast as I could click letters
Author was a liberal I could respect.
I don’t know how you get the first two words by “inspection”, but the third word is obvious. Once you have that, the first words aren’t hard, and once you fill in the first two letters of the second word, the first word - and the entire puzzle - is no challenge.
BTW, some words that fit the pattern of the third word are:
ADLAND
ADWARD
AERAGE
AERATE
ARTAIR
ASIANS
ASKARS
BALBOA
BRIBER
CANCHA
CERCLE
CONCHO
CONCIO
CSECTS
DEIDRE
EDMEAD
EMBEAM
ESKERS
ESTERS
GAMGIA
GANGSA
GANGWA
GILGAI
GLAGOL
GORGIO
GRAGER
GREGOR
INDIAN
INDIGN
ITOIST
KECKLE
LAELIA
LESLIE
LEZLIE
MNEMON
NARNIA
OACOMA
OCTOIC

RETRUE
REURGE
TANTRA
TEATHE
TENTIE
TESTAE
THATCH
THETCH
TOSTAO
TRITER
TRITOR
UNBURN
UNTURN
USQUES
Only one commonly shows up in cryptograms.
FReepmail.
About a minute...and I am shocked how I solved it. Saw the first and ninth words were similar. I placed the first word that came to mind for the first word to see how it would affect the ninth word. The change was so minimal that I could just go ahead and fill in the letters. It was a wild guess on my part.
Oh and an author’s photo would not have helped me at all. ha ha
So sorry about the subtle hint but as I said, it was to damn early in the morning.
4 minutes today
About two minutes. Got the third word, then guessed at the first two words. The rest flowed from there.
