Delta Air Lines has come under scrutiny after the carrier reportedly did not allow a service dog scheduled to be delivered to a two-year-old child dealing with seizures on one of its flights.
According to FOX 10 Phoenix, pet rescue agency representative Kim Biggerstaff was planning to fly a service dog named Daisy to California to help a two-year-old girl named Mila Lhautara who was born with hydrocephalus and recently diagnosed with epilepsy.
When Biggerstaff tried to book a flight with Delta, the airline said the service dog would not be allowed to board. The animal was being flown to Mila, as her seizures cause difficulty breathing and Daisy would be able to alert the parents to the potential danger.
While Delta updated its emotional support animal policies in 2018 to not allow pit bulls on flights, Biggerstaff said Daisy is a boxer/bulldog mix. Despite the dog’s documentation and training, Delta continued to refuse the animal on its flights.
“I said that's discrimination. That's illegal,” Biggerstaff FOX 10 Phoenix. “They said, ‘No, we have lawyers on standby. We wouldn't do this if there were any legal issues that could arouse.’”

That sounds correct -- I can't imagine anyone being aroused by a legal issue.
Worst imaginable writing. If there's a "two-year-old child dealing with seizures on one of its flights" they should call 911 not the ASPCA.

One does not buy a lot when one comes in and puts down a blanket and sits with their dog.
The ones I see put their dog in the shopping carts!..........
They don’t belong on a plane, train, boat or a kayak.
My parents had pets all of their lives and they never mandated they be allowed special privileges.
You want a pet...take care of it.
Its not my job or anyone else.
Why would a child need this? Kids have to sleep. Parents have to sleep. Having someone or in this case, a support animal, who can tell when the child is about to have a seizure, can notify parents so they are there to help.
A seizure when a child is asleep can be fatal. A seizure and a parent doesn't know and no one does - because the child is 2 years old - can be dangerous.
Maybe if you bothered to spend 30 seconds learning what hydrocephalus is and why a service animal is important (including so the child can be home with parents and not away from them under constant medical attention) you might not be so blase about a toddler with a medical condition - not Suburban Suzy who takes her pet poodle everywhere as her service animal.

I find it hard to believe that someone who raises/trains Service Dogs FOR A LIVING isn’t aware of the nation-wide band of volunteers who will DRIVE a dog on part of the journey to a new owner, coast to coast!
I have no love lost for the airlines - I cannot STAND to fly anymore, but seriously?
I’m going to look up this woman’s organization and clue her in. Yeesh!

The two year old wasn't even on the flight. It was being delivered to her.

You make an excellent point.
I think of queers who go out of their way looking for a florist or baker who won’t do their queer wedding.
So then they pitch a fit and sue.
I wonder if this dog trainer targeted Delta for just the same reason.

I have had dogs in show and trained them for various roles, and I see many times people abusing the system when it comes to service dogs.
Just recently I was at the Boston airport and a young couple had a dogs with a coat saying service dog. That was no service dog at all. He held the dog he let people stroke and kiss the dog , and when he was questioned about his dog he pretended and lied about his girlfriend having seizures. If that was true she would be with the dog not he, and the dog was certainly not trained. When I questioned on how long the training was and where they quickly left for their terminal
You can go into a store, shopping mall and see people with those small dogs being carried by the owner which have a coat saying service dog. They are not service dogs at all.
For $75 you can get a coat, a piece of paper , and a tag saying your dog is a service dog. It is disgusting that people use this to take their dogs into places where they should not be.

Based on the article and my background in dog training, I'd say Daisy qualifies as a service animal.
I also feel Delta needs to rethink it's policies. From the article:
If you see someone our shopping and have a dog wearing a Service Animal vest and you doubt the dog's ability, ask the the dog's owner to demonstrate some common, basic Service Animal commands like sit, lay down and stay.
Most people with an ESA dog, sometimes called a Companion Animal, will be able to have their dog perform these commands. Oh, and be sure to remind the person that a real Service Animal animal can do these commands with the command spoken just once and without any help from the owner.

You can take any dog if it is well behaved into those stores here. I have no problem if a store allow well behaved dogs. I do have a problem when people take advantage of the service dog system and take those dogs anywhere, especially in where food is being served and the dog is not trained.
Put the dog on the Chrissy Blasey Ford Shuttle. She should be driving west at the end of her annual east coast beach vacation.
