It was 1999. The symptoms soon became intense and untreatable.
... he would spend the next 11 years mostly confined to a hospital bed
Lindsay immersed himself in medical research, determined to find a way out. He saw specialists from endocrinology, neurology, internal medicine and other specialties. When one doctor was out of ideas, he referred Lindsay to a psychiatrist.
Thats when Lindsay he realized hed have to figure his predicament out on his own.
While in college he had picked up a 2,200-page endocrinology textbook ...
He zeroed in on his adrenal glands...
In 2002, he gave a presentation about his disease To get there, Lindsay bought a row of airline tickets so that, with the help of friends, he could lay across several seats during the flight.
They didnt patronize me. They treated me like a scientist, Lindsay said. I was entering into a world of science I couldnt participate in because I was at home and couldnt be a grad student.
His first big lead came in 2008. He found a 1980 study from a scientist at Georgia State University, which he summed up as: You slice the rats adrenal gland with a razor blade and squeeze it so the medulla pops out like a pimple.
He built a 363-page PDF which proposed a first-ever human adrenal medullectomy.
Then he spent the next 18 months working to find a surgeon who would oversee the unorthodox procedure.
Hes not exactly the biology professor he dreamed of being at 21, ... Hes leveraging his experience into a new career as a medical consultant.
Im a full professor at Stanford, and I dont know these answers, said Dr. Lawrence Chu, who found himself leaning on Lindsay when a rare disease patient came to him. Doug was the expert consultant.

“I think I’ll pass!:)”
Reminds me of when I was sailing with an old sailor who had a coal passer certificate. I didn’t ask him what it felt like.
DONE ALREADY YEARS AGO... .lobotomy.
Thats nearly the name of the first ever hone surgery kit: Suture Self.
Sorry, home.
Geez.
That’s a very impressive individual.
I’m guessing that trepanning method probably wouldn’t work to help some men get the blood flowing in other parts of the body?
That ism nowhere in Scriptures.
This guy may have helped himself, but please do not act as if it is biblicalical by using God’s name in the phrase.
Great story if it wasn’t the placebo effect of the surgery that did him the most good.
“Great story if it wasnt the placebo effect of the surgery that did him the most good.”
This was the case when they did a controlled research study on the stellate ganglion block injection as a tool to decrease PTSD.
Stellate ganglion injections have been used to treat back pain for many years. Veterans found that the injections decreased PTSD symptoms.
However, in the controlled study they found that the placebo injections of saline solution had the same result as the anesthetic in decreasing PTSD symptoms.
Nah, just have a beer.
“I’d rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy”.

The Williams insufficient blood problem.
Hypovolemia has taken many a man down.
I think he gave a TED Talk or something?
This was a poster for the event? Explains it quickly.

that is the brain, the article references the adrenal medulla
if it wasnt the placebo effect of the surgery
Measuring adrenalin(epinephrine) levels from blood or urine are well established.
Probably difficult to fake?
PMA!
That ism nowhere in Scriptures.

Simply highlighting and clicking search, brings up the wiki site:
The phrase “God helps those who help themselves” is a motto that emphasizes the importance of self-initiative and agency. The expression is still famous around the globe and used to inspire people for self-help. The phrase originated in ancient Greece and may originally have been proverbial. It is illustrated by two of Aesop’s Fables and a similar sentiment is found in ancient Greek drama. Although it has been commonly attributed to Benjamin Franklin, the modern English wording appears earlier in Algernon Sidney’s work.
The phrase is often mistaken as a scriptural quote, though it is not stated verbatim in the Bible. Some Christians have criticized the expression as being contrary to the Bible’s message of God’s grace.[1] A variant of the phrase can also be found in the Quran (13:11).[2][3]

NB: I cited wiki.
Had it been from the Scriptures, I would have cited chapter and verse.
The discretion of a man deferreth his anger; and it is his glory to pass over a transgression. Proverbs 19:11 KJV
I prefer KJV, but here is a modern version:
“Good sense and discretion make a man slow to anger, And it is his honor and glory to overlook a transgression or an offense [without seeking revenge and harboring resentment].” Proverbs 19:11 AMP Bible
A beautiful Sabbath here, so please do not get too excited.
Its a phrase.
