In a report released Friday, the Homeland Security Department's Inspector General said the amount of fentanyl seized by agents and stored in vaults has skyrocketed -- from 70 pounds in 2015 to 3,500 pounds so far in this budget year.
In a response letter, CBP said it concurred with the findings and promised that by the end of September all its vaults storing fentanyl will have Narcan kits and that its agents will be trained in how to use them.
CBP said it has trained more than 4,500 officers in how to recognize the signs of an overdose, deployed 3,300 dual-use Narcan kits in the field and outfitted its storage vaults with safety equipment such as gloves, masks and Tyvek suits.
"Canine units are particularly at risk of immediate death from inhaling fentanyl. In August 2015, law enforcement officers in New Jersey doing a narcotics field test on a substance that later turned out to be a mix of heroin, cocaine and fentanyl, were exposed to the mixture and experienced dizziness, shortness of breath and respiratory problems."

heat and ultraviolet degrade fentanyl.
Thanks BenLurkin.
We need to declare war on Mexico, take over that God forsaken place, kill their corrupt leaders, and start that place over.
Well, kalifornia could be a good place for a dry run.
The idea of a "we" has been seriously diluted due to the poor immigration control and lack of assimilation over the past 50 years. To quote the possessed Linda Blair in the Exorcist, now "We are legion."
i know what it is, it doesn’t mean it cannot be destroyed...
I’m on fentanyl for nerve damage in my arm, and have been for almost a decade with no dosage increase in over six years. In medical settings, properly administered, it is not generally dangerous. They gave me IV doses after transplant for a central line, and for an ovarian cyst last year. I now know what it feels like to be kicked in the pills, because that is the same nerve cluster. It sucks.
The crap on the street is dangerous, because dosage is not controlled. There’s a reason it is administered in micrograms (mcg). I’m on 50/hr. Law enforcement encounters enitre pounds.
Narcan is effective on heroin, but not so much on fentanyl. It can take triple the dose of narcan, and that may not even work.
I fear for them.
50? That’s a lot in my experience, I lost 2/3 of the skin on my right hand and only got a 25 mcg shot ... then they followed it up with a shot of dilaudid. Fentanyl, not so scary to me, in THAT setting. Dilaudid, now that stuff scares the piss out of me - one shot, then another when I got to the burn unit to do the actual work, i actually wanted more ...
Oh, sorry, my sympathies for your suffering. No personal experience with nerve issues so hard for me to relate.
