Harley-Davidson is releasing details about the electric motorcycle its rolling out this year that it hopes will capture the imagination of a new generation of riders and put a charge into its diminishing sales.
The LiveWire, which will soon be available in a limited number of dealerships, will cost nearly $30,000 and can go zero to 60 mph in three seconds. There is no clutch and no shifting.
The company said Thursday that buyers will have access to free charging at participating LiveWire dealers for the first two years.
The Milwaukee motorcycle company has struggled with declining sales and an aging client base in the U.S. and abroad.

But does it sound like a Harley?
Im just pointing out that the younger buyers that Harley desperately needs are not at all interested in motorcycles that shout POTATO POTATO POTATO POTATO POTATO as you ride by.
Im under 45 and my motorcycle (which does 0-60 in 2.8 and tops out at 155) is so quiet you can stalk pedestrians in parking lots or on sidewalks with it.
Lotta people gonna die a lot faster.
South Park covered harley riders quite accurately.
Love the Kawasakis. Had mine tweaked to 160 hp. Thinking now of getting another one.
Sounds like it could be dangerous to drive.
$30 grand for an electric bike?? Why the hell would I pay for that when for half the price I can get a better bike that’s real.
“zero to 60 mph in three seconds”
What could possibly go wrong?
Nothing considering Asian bikes broke that barrier more than two decades ago. This is the first production Harley to be able to do this.
I imagine your typical (by demographics) Harley owner (older Boomer) will have real problems with it, though.
0-60 in 3 sec is slow for a bike. I’ve owned bikes from the late ‘80s that would do 0-60 in under 2 sec and entirely in 1st gear.
I am in the minority and would love a motorcycle like this. I just want something to get me from point A to B economically with no hassles. I can care less about chrome, speed and sound. My broader point is that electric vehicles of any type are not close to practical as of yet. I can just as well buy a reliable older Honda.

under 3 seconds.
Numerous bikes will do that.
It might be fast, but it's ugly as sin. The engine looks like an air conditioner or toaster. Gak...
I'd rather have something like this little dual sport, 200 mile range at 76 miles per gallon, and great engine clearance for nasty dirt roads...Dirt cheap and hard to beat.
$30 grand for an electric bike??
They must be high...
You gotta see this.... *ping*
I’ve got a Road King that I absolutely love, and I’m a Gen-Xer. You complainers don’t have a clue. Harley is following the market. They have the best electric bike out there, and the electric bike market WILL increase. Harley will not stop making it’s classic bikes any time soon. They already have a lot of smaller bike options. And Harley is the cream of the crop of all motorcycle manufacturers, no matter what people say about it.
