The size and age of the universe seem to not agree with one another.

Astronomers have determined that the universe is nearly 14 billion years old and yet its diameter is 92 billion light years across.

How can both of those numbers possibly be true?

In this video, Fermilab’s Dr. Don Lincoln tells you how.

I saw a 52 million galaxy count for just one patch of sky

I know. Something so far from our time is just a wild guess.

Could be that the guess about the age of the Earth is the one that is way the crap off.

I always start out sure that I can sort this whole thing out
and then a little ways into it I start getting a headache.

I don’t suppose anybody would accept “it is what it is?” :)

Wouldn’t the universe at the end of the inflationary period still be only very small? Surely, the inflationary theory doesn’t posit that the universe grew to billions of light years across in 10^32 seconds?

First, that's 10 to the MINUS 32. ie 10^ -32. Humongous difference. 64 zeros (64 powers of 10!) :)

Second, if I recall correctly (too lazy to check right now), I believe the theory states that the universe grew to the size of a grapefruit following the near-infinitely brief supposed inflationary period.

the space between objects is expanding - the why is unknown

Right, but the light from those distant galaxies has reached us, no? How could any light reach us that was more than 14 billion light years away, if indeed the universe is only 14 billion years old?

Yes, we can only see the "observable universe", those portions which have not (yet) expanded away too far for their light to not have had enough time to make it to us.

Yet we CAN see, or detect, the microwave background, a remnant of the 'aftermath' of the Big Bang, now red-shifted to microwave radiation frequencies.

Question: Did you write that piece yourself, or copy it from somewhere?

Because it is loaded with keyboard characters would not come through in plain text format. In fact, I don’t think they even exist on most keyboards.

I wrote it myself. I’m a retired electro-mechanical engineer and it’s a hobby of mine.

Interesting. So then, do you have a special keyboard with those Greek symbols? mu, etc?

Because they are what’s causing the problems.

Copy the piece and replace the symbols with standard plain text characters. For example, replace the symbol with its name. ie, “mu”, or just the letter ‘u’.

It is interesting stuff, all right, but I’m still going to wait to hear what actually happened, from God. I won’t be able to transmit my findings to you, of course; you’ll have to get them on the other side, just like I will. Won’t it be marvelous?

Of course, given how wonderful heaven is, we probably won't care about the findings. I figure it works like this: You arrive and think, "Yes! I have so many questions and now I can get the answers I've wanted all my life." So you ask God whatever—'78 Steelers vs. '84 Niners under both sets of rules; how the Big Bang came about; why flies were created. And as He's giving you the first answer, you realize, "I'm in heaven and it's beyond wonderful. I don't care anymore." Just a thought. :)

I try to stay away from that one after the big dust up it caused back in ‘74.

I remember reading about that. Good thing you've buried it in the past..........
