You can find this little fun word game, to combat early dementia and senility in us baby boomers, in several daily publications.
The way it works is a letter stands for another letter.
For example: AXYDLBAAXR is LONGFELLOW (does not apply to today's cryptogram).
Beware, the game is very addictive. If this is your first time, don't be intimidated.
PLEASE DO NOT post the answer in general comments, but DO post your time and any tips you might give the group on how you solve these puzzles as puzzle solvers love to hear how you made out.
You can certainly send your solution to my private reply, or if you need a hint for todays Cryptogram.
If you need a little help you can copy the cryptogram and paste it to Hals Helper below:
You can then work on the puzzle without using pen and paper.
Solution to our last puzzle:
A WISE MAN NEITHER SUFFERS HIMSELF TO BE GOVERNED, NOR ATTEMPTS TO GOVERN OTHERS. LA BRUYERE
Not so easy. I had to start over a couple times. Guessing the author did it in the end.
About 3 and 1/2 min. Slow start after guessing one letter words. Getting author’s name helped. I like the author.
2 min or so.
First the E, then the contraction, a couple obvious words, off to the races.
Most common letter followed by contraction. Falls into place after that. 60 seconds.
Author was obvious, so over quickly. Now, on to yesterday’s puzzle.
3:25.07
Guess the contraction and the rest follows. Sort of topical.
about a minute and a half.
First and third word and the last letter of the contraction were first clues.
First I guessed the first three words. Then the contraction. Then the last three words. Then the author. Then from there it just filled itself in. LOL.... great line from a funny author!
Yesderday was a bear
That’s the way I like them.
Three minutes. Solve the contraction and the rest opens up.

2:30. I figured out the author’s name first.
