A 17-year-old girl who played football and aspired to enlist with the Marines was killed by a suspected drunken driver, Florida authorities said Tuesday.
Ten-to-one the drunk was an illegal alien.
Devastating. Too many of us have seen these situations. The rate of DWI/DUI deaths has come down but it doesn’t help here or in other situations.
heartbreaking
Driver was Neil Singhal, 69, behind the wheel of a 2014 BMW. No photo I could find in the article. Police said the victims bike had front and rear lights and that the driver was operating the vehicle while impaired.
A sad story. Completely senseless.
Singhals photo associated with the story can be found through an online search.
Thanks!
Awful...BUT “She was a Warhawk. She was a Marine. She was our friend..” and she was riding a bike across a fricken bridge at 10:30 at night....in Florida,
When you're too young to afford a car, you do that. But yeah, you are depending on the attention and ability of the car drivers.
My first thought as well.
Not sure of the saturation level of illegals in Florida, but here in eastern Washington there’s about a 90% chance you would be right.
How many convenience stores does he own?
I had to put my bike down in a ditch one night when I was a teen something to avoid some homicidal maniac deliberately trying to bugger me.
There’s time I’d get off the road, if I could help it, 4th of July night might be one. Usually, it’s reasonably safe if one takes precautions. I hear you.
I’m so sorry. My 21-year-old daughter is a Marine.
Yo, is this Free Republic or not? Where are the people who think girl football players and women Marines are the end of civilization as we know it?
Step up, men, take your stand and be counted!!!
Singhal is a South Asian (probably Indian) name. And Neil is probably a Westernization of Neel (”blue”) or something similar. He certainly looks half in the bag in his foto.
I have no issue with the ladies in sports.
I do have a huge issue with women in combat.
This story is tragic, and a young life was needlessly taken which has nothing to do with what you were talking about.
I really dislike headlines like this.
They insinuate that her life is a greater loss than some kid who was a good person but happened to be a C student and did not aspire to the USMC.
If someone had run over me at that age, the headline might have read, “he was a nice guy, but he had no ambitions and would just end up being a salesman. Tut tut”
It is the tragic loss of a young life that cannot be fulfilled. Isn’t that enough? Isn’t that what matters?
