GARDEN GROVE (CBSLA) Shoppers at a Garden Grove Walmart say theyre being harassed by a group of homeless people in the parking lot, but police say they cannot do anything about it.
Neighbors say a homeless camp has popped up in the parking lot leading to vandalism and harassment, and they say Walmart will not ask them to leave.
Security guards and crews to pick up trash have been hired for area parking lots to combat some issues, but shoppers still say they feel unsafe and frustrated.
Theres just a lot of homeless, a lot, asking for money, said one shopper who was there with a child. I dont come after its dark.
And when area cops are called out to the scene, their hands are tied.

A health scare and ensuing panic in normal neighborhoods with the very real potential of infecting their children will get this most serious problem the attention it merits.
Until society addresses the root causes of homelessness (spiritual void, broken families, high costs of living/housing (from continual debasement of the dollar), exporting jobs, importing low-wage foreigners, crappy K-12 education), I have a hard time seeing how this all ends without deaths and violence.
How can I counterpunch this situation with the least amount of stress?
Think.
Why can police do nothing? Is it the law in CA that people can just plop down a tent and live where they damn well please? What kind of goofy state is that? No private property allowed?
I suspect Walmart will drive shoppers to Target and Costco assuming those stores don’t allow parking lots to become homeless camps.
Or people will just skip the driving (CA gas tax went up today) and shop Amazon.
last time I was in San Diego, there was a huge homeless encampment in Mission Valley, right along the San Diego River. There were a couple malls nearby, so it was a perfect place for pitching tents near the woods, and then panhandling at the mall by day.
I always make eye contact with beggars and let them know I see them but am not interested in them. The worst thing to do is try to avoid eye contact. That tells the bum you are feeling guilty about their plight. that's what my wife does. She will be sitting in her car and looking staight ahead as if she has blinders on. I always look at them, almost staring at them. That way they know I made the choice to not give a shit.
And in some cases, I do give a shit and give them a buck if I have any loose bills on me.
Wrong, ALL Walmart merch. is not from China. Some is from India, Pakistan, Viet Ham, So Korea, etc. I even saw stuff from Canada.
Where do you believe they should buy their merch.?
CA law cares more for filthy hostile bums than for decent productive people. If you vote for lawmakers who think this way, vote different; otherwise, I'm sorry to say your best option may be to leave.
I don’t think this will be a problem in my state (KY). People are a little more practical in their decision making.
Frankly, if it did happen where I live, people would probably take care of it themselves while the cops look the other way.
Liberals think Wal-Mart shoppers are the lowest rung on the social and economic ladder (i.e. Trump supporters) so they’re not concerned by this.
Probably unreported but likely happening are a) rampant shoplifting and b) property crimes against customers. This will give Wal-Mart the excuse it needs to shut down the store.
That will be preferable to all the lawsuits that will spring up from having to deal with this pestilence.
Most of the time with the corrupt news media, the key information is at the bottom of the article:
Many times they sit there and say, Cant you just arrest them? But it doesnt work that way, Brian Meers, a Garden Grove police officer assigned to the homelessness problem, said. Most of the violations in the state are misdemeanor crimes now and they get out in six hours, and the reality of it is that theyre going to go right back to doing what they were doing before.
until the enforce the law.
They are enforcing the law. The police and the homeless/bums/transients know there is nothing they can do about it. Everything is a misdemeanor now thanks to California lawmakers. Arresting people is just a waste of everyone’s time now.
No, only if you're homeless. Don't try camping in the Walmart lot if you are gainfully employed and have an address. You will be promptly rousted.
Walmart’s worked out a nice compromise between helping those less fortunate and running a business. Walmart needs to tell these people NOT to panhandle - problem solved.
“Try Walmart” for FREE RV parking...

Check out Walmart! Yes, you read that right - Walmart is not only the place for camping essentials, it’s also the best-kept “secret” in free overnight camping. Many Walmart locations across the country allow motorhome campers to stop overnight (free!) in their parking lots.
i like my walmart but if this were to happen there, I would stop shopping there.
I will put it simply:
This new report just CLOSED this Wal-Mart. It’s only a matter of time.
Perhaps that was the news outlet’s intent.
Apparently.
Why would they continue to shop there? I wouldn’t.
