The Pentagon can identify targets from afar using a laser to measure heartbeats Technology is being developed for U.S. Special Operations for surveillance Infrared lasers are able to penetrate clothing and skin to monitor blood flow Heartbeats are completely unique unlike faces or even thumbprints Prototypes currently have a range of about 200 meters or 219 yards
As noted by MIT, companies like Nymi are already using cardiac signatures -- taken via a wrist-mounted pulse sensor -- to identify people for security purposes.

I have used HRV (Heart Rate Variability) training for years, a friend that also uses it claims it shows if he had a second beer the night before! I use it to show peak days for high-intensity training. To spend time at 100% HR, I need all the help I can get!
All of the people using fitbits or other health monitors: congrats, your unique heart rhythm is now in a database. One that can be used to track or target you.
There was a Star Trek episode “Court Martial” where Kirk is on trial for negligence in the death of an officer, but it turned out the guy was hiding on the ship and they used that type of device to find him.
Tinfoil suit time.
To make the method viable, U.S. Special Forces would likely need to build a database.

Not to worry....just get it from Google.
Dayummm..!
Nice work..!
HIIT, bro..!
I thought i saw every Star Trek a thousand times. Not ringing a bell. Have to look it up.
Seriously? That’s how this works?
I would be TERRIFIED to see what it had to say about my heart!!!
The machine would call the morgue then the funeral home!
Better use would be for those wearing a ankle monitor.
Are we talking its a human not a kangaroo or its Harold not Buttplug?
All of the people using fitbits
IIRC none of the laser type monitors have the resolution for HRV.
I’m not describing the key parts, or I’m sure you’d remember it. He has a lawyer that doesn’t believe in computers but old fashioned law books, and the disgruntled officer is angry with Kirk for getting captain before he did. The videos show Kirk pushing the wrong button, but it was actually a deep fake video by the guy as vengeance. Kirk’s old girlfriend is the prosecuting attorney...
I read that it IDs individuals.
All living things generate an electric/magnetic field. Some animals, like sharks, even have sensory organs to detect these fields. It would stand to reason that each magnetic field would be somewhat unique for each individual. Although these fields are probably too weak to be identified from any distance, suppose you were to scan a crowd with a microwave device. Each individual field would resonate with the microwave beam, producing different frequencies in return, if your equipment were sensitive enough. I have often wondered if such a method would not be useful in picking out or tracking individuals.
"It would have worked, too, if not for you meddling kids."
I guess it’s time to pull out the ol’ tin-foil wife beater undershirt.
Tinfoil suit time.
Maybe not.
This is what I use:

There are several apps.
Widely used.
The simple Polar chest monitor ($50) compares nicely with hospital-grade equipment.
“So it only works if the actor is wearing a smart watch or a heart rate monitor? “
No.
