EVERLY HILLS, Calif. — Maria Rosario Pilar Lorenza Emilia Eugenia Martinez Molina Baeza De La Osa Rasten — you know her as Charo — was walking through her home looking for her husband, singing, “Good morning, good morning,” when she found him. He had shot himself. Kjell Rasten was 78 when he died in February. Charo has said that he had been suffering from a rare disease called bullous pemphigoid, which is characterized by terrible blistering of the skin, and that he had become depressed. “My husband put a bullet in his head,” Charo said. “I have an invisible bullet in my heart.” In the month after his death, Charo retreated to her bedroom, where she cried, but did not pray. “I was empty,” she said. After 30 days of isolation she emerged. She came to understand, once she resurfaced, that while, as she put it, “my time as a woman has ended” — meaning her life as a woman who experiences romantic love — she has her son, and her sister, and her nephew, and God.

This is sad. Sorry to hear that. Not many people know this, but she is an amazing guitarist. Just Google "Charo Guitar". I have this CD and it is really good.

How sad...my MIL had/may still have what her husband had. There are, I think some better solutions. Charo always seems so realistically happy. Suicide is mean to the family, imho.

Wow

I am reminded of Miranda Veracruz De La Hoya Cardinal.

God bless Charo.

I’m so sorry she has to deal with this. She’s always been so much fun. When I was a kid, I loved her and Carol Burnett trying to ‘Out-Charo’ each other, LOL!

I was so happy to learn about her guitar prowess! I’ll be checking that out. Thanks!

I just started the Spotify playlist “This is Charo.” Seems like a good evening for good flamenco.

When I was growing up, I would get Charo and Cher mixed up sometimes.

DIdn't they both show their belly buttons? That was considered risque back in the day.

Not these days. It's easy to tell them apart. One is an obnoxious loudmouth (Cher) and the other one is not (Charo).

That is amazing to know, I actually really like classical guitar music. I will “spotify” her stuff!

If she wasn’t so beautiful the Feminists would have told me about her already!

(Feel I must point out that I am a girl, sometimes from my name, etc. people don’t realize that! But of course everyone loves Charo, she always seems like a very sweet person!)

“That was considered risque back in the day.”

Now we have drag-queen story hour. And if you don’t like that you belong in the gulag.

AH, Progress!

Suicide leaves a hole in the hearts of loved ones. I lost my daughter to it almost three years ago.
Prayers for Charo.

I must be from a generation where we knew her as Charo, not Charo the Entertainer, like Cedrick the Entertainer and Cher the Entertainer.

“she always seems like a very sweet person!”

Isn’t that the truth? She always seems so happy and it’s so infectious. This is so sad for her.
