The gentleman did clear up one mystery. Dad had an aunt Jenny in lineage (who my sister is named after). We also had some letters signed by Jane kept by the family historian. Apparently Jenny is a nickname for Jane. Like Molly is for Mary. Becky is for Rebecca Beth or Liz is for Elizabeth. So we know that Jenny and Jane were the same person.(in the same time frame)

I can understand this as the Church was the keeper of the birth, marriage and death records.

Back years ago all villagers were members of the same Church, nothing like it is today.

I really enjoy watching “Finding Your Roots” on PBS and “Who Do You Think You Are” which I don’t think is on any more.

There was even an UK version of WDYTYA that I found on YouTube.

Another thing we discovered while dad was doing geneology, children were listed under their mother and her maiden name in Ireland for a period of time. A matriarchal society. He found his ancestor Singer and her children listed on ships manifest but was unable to find when her husband came over. We speculated that he “worked” his way over. Serving in some capacity on the ships crew. We know where they were buried

Hubby has found that this happened in his family.

When his ancestors left Sweden for Denmark they used the mothers maiden name of Hansen.

Genealogy has many twists and turns.

In some countries you are not allowed to do the research yourself but have to hire people that have the credentials to do the research.

Remember reading about the Scottish regiment complete with bagpipes at the invasion of D-Day. If you can find any material it’s very interesting Queen Elizabeth is also queen of Scotland and has her summer home there. POTUS mother, Mary McLeod, was a loyal subject.
