I applaud this. Sadly the stability of marriage isn’t what it used to be. Every woman needs to be able to earn her own living.
Yeah, every girl dreams of toting 50 pound sacks of cement and a tool belt................
Rule 1.
It is hard, sweaty and back breaking work.
Good for them. Need more trade skills taught in school, along with basic home and personal finance. I remember, back in the day, we had auto, drafting, etc as electives. A lot more useful than Latin, etc.
A touching story of a little girls introduction to the construction trades:

I think men in the construction industry would rather work with men. Women don’t have to horn in on everything a man does.
Some folks are not too sure how to hang a painting on a wall.
A hammer is not always the answer. It’s good to at least try, and learn about basic tools, basic kinds of screwdrivers.
now how are they gonna do this work in high heels and ankle length dresses?
Most women can’t even change a flat, much less figure out how to use power tools.
No way that I could ever have done this.
Women have always been in the front offices of construction sites. I remember going for a job interview in one of those trailers when I was very young.
The big ole elephant in the room is that construction jobs in much of the country are completely dominated by men who speak very little English and expect to get paid in cash. These men come from a culture (and all cultures are equal, remember) that definitely has hard lines drawn on what is men’s work and what is women’s work.
I agree with you 100% on that.
Awesome!
I recently had some work done at the local Jiffy Lube and all the staff were women. Awesome!
And they’ll want the same salary as those men who work high up on buildings being constructed and walk on girders. Without ever going up them, of course.
There are two kinds of trades. One of them is heavy trades, involving danger, heavy lifting, extreme weather, and in the end major joint and back damage. Not a world for girls.
Yes, I agree strongly that trade classes (and less social activism fodder) should be offered in school, to both boys and girls. While I would never have made it as a plumber, I do wish I had some basic plumbing skills.
I don’t see anything wrong with girls going into construction trades, and am a bit disheartened by some of the remarks on this thread.
