Durant was injured in the second quarter of Mondays game, after getting off to a solid start in his first action since May 8, when he first hurt his lower leg during a second-round playoff game against the Houston Rockets.
Meanwhile, Raptors fans were sharply criticized online for their initial reaction to his apparent injury. Philadelphia 76ers all-star Joel Embiid, watching from afar, was moved to describe the display as disgusting while tweeting: Why are they cheering for his injury? Come on man.
After the game, which the Warriors managed to win despite the loss of Durant, Golden State Coach Steve Kerr said of the forwards injury to reporters, Some of the fans were cheering when it happened. The Raptors players understood how serious it was. There was a couple of minutes there where it all seemed so eerie and strange.

Why? Because the only people that still pay attention to the NBA are as vile as the trashy players....
The lack of edged weapons makes people think that we don’t have gladiatorial games. But we basically do. Bread and Circuses. And the people like a little blood now and again.
I don’t care if some America hating elitist got hurt.

The NBA??? Is that worthless game still around??? I quit watching that worthless league several decades ago. There are only about 4 or 5 teams that have ANY hope of winning the title and all the rest are just cannon fader for those 4 or 5 teams. I remember the Atlanta Hawks moved from St. Louis and had a very good team. They have been in Atlanta since the late 1960s. The Braves came about 1966 also. The Braves have won ONE stinking championship in those 54 years in Atlanta. The stinking, and I mean their play STINKS, Atlanta Hawks HAVE NEVER BEEN TO THE NBA FINALS in my memory. The old St. Louis Hawks won the title back in the 1950s or so. Nearly 65 years or so since that stinking franchise won anything in that worthless league. I quit watching when Bird and Magic retired. The league was getting worthless even then. Lakers and Celts, Lakers and Celts, maybe throw in Houston once in a while back then. The maybe the Seattle Supersonics. But, for the most part, that league stinks. They have a first round draft that ONLY MAYBE 10 players will make the league. All the other 1st round draft choices are worthless and never will play. Bench warmers at best. A worthless league.
Toronto is Philadelphia with poutine.
Yours is a good explanation of the entire Armchair Sports phenomena. A lot of vicarious thrills and venting going on.

I love when someone who has a perceptive take.
Most sports fans only root for the name on the back of the jersey when the one on the front has the right name on it.
I’m not suggesting that players don’t become personal and real to fans, nor that you can’t admire a great player on other teams for their successes, but for the most part there is something quite tribal about sports, and these people wouldn’t give you the time of day if they didn’t need you to buy tickets.
when KD actually left, there was respectful applause throughout the arena.
At least the players tried to calm the crowd down. They knew that it was the wrong reaction to have.
Basketball is an emotionally charged sport at any level. Something about the crowded and loud environment, the frequent scoring, and yes, home team loyalty, get people worked up.
[[Why are they cheering for his injury? Come on man.]]
Because unfortunately society is cranking out a lot of dipshits- that’s why, excuse my language!
How much cheering would there be if Trump or someone in his immediate family were hurt?
yes, I used to coach.
The liberals would be ecstatic if such events happened.
Magic built his career on the fact that steps and double-dribble disappeared
The arena was full of non-real-fans and bandwagon jumpers. The real fans, like myself and many others, mostly could not afford to get into the arena. As soon as I saw that, I said “that’s not cool”. You don’t cheer an injury, even if you’re happy that Durant is out.
I loved the NBA as a kid in the 70s and 80s...the luster began to slip in the 90s and then damn...
Pro Sports have gone full retard/ghetto... Watching sports on tv has declined about 99.999% for me.
I suppose what it is, the degradation of our society and the click bait world, internet, social media...progressivism and political correctness all being shoved down our throats.
I’m glad I can turn off the TV. I suspect that the totalitarian world of the future will require us to watch tv...like in 1984. Until then.... I’m the athlete and ride dirt bikes in the mountains and woods...
It’s thug ball, no finesse.
