Here comes another global disaster! Microplastics.
American Thinker ^ | 06/07/2019 | Daniel G. Jones

Scientists thought it was bad, but it's even worse than they imagined. Now it's a potential catastrophe that will affect all our lives — unless we take action now. Otherwise, life on Earth will be irreparably harmed.

I'm not talking about global warming. I'm talking about global warming part II: microplastics!

Today, Fox News reported the release of a "groundbreaking study" of Monterey Bay by the Scripps Oceanographic Institute. A Scripps scientist summarized the findings: "Everywhere we looked and in every animal we looked, we found microplastics!"

The accompanying film was oddly irrelevant. It showed ocean waters filled with trash — pieces of metal, wood, glass, and plastic. Ugly, to be sure, but nothing that threatened the ocean's inhabitants. And nothing, obviously, that was microscopic.

Jonathan Hunt of Fox News elaborated: "Scientists say this is a, quote, 'wakeup call for the world[.]' ... What they found horrified them. Microplastics — tiny broken-up pieces of plastic everywhere, from the surface to the seabed. Those small pieces are being eaten by small creatures and, in turn, by bigger fish, then turning up on our dinner plate."

If this is a problem off the coast of eco-friendly California, it must also be a problem elsewhere, right? "It's highly likely," continued Hunt, quoting scientists, "that pretty much every single area of every single one of the world's oceans is already littered by plastics pollution."

We are already...doomed.

Fortunately there's hope. Scripps scientists promise to work on a solution in concert with corporations and government. "But," they told Hunt, "it starts with each of us getting rid of those single-use plastic items, such as plastic water bottles."

Aha — this has a familiar odor. The microplastic scare has all the earmarks of the global warming scare. \

Just like the global air and water pollution problems have been for half a century, banning the pollutants in countries/cultures that already dispose of them properly will not even put a dent in the problem that is being caused by turd world, Asian, African and Latin American (amazingly enough, mostly socialist/communist/warlord) management.

This is a problem, but it will be solved because the Rat Politicians in CA have outlawed Food Servers from giving their Customer plastic straws unless the Customer requests one.

As an aside, we just moved to MS from CA. There is no Recycling where we live, you just throw Aluminum, Plastic and Glass Containers in the Trash and it all ends up at the local Dump. No $.05 per Container Deposits here.

I consider myself a Conservative first and a Libertarian second, but I still think if it makes Economic sense and prevents massive Pollution to Recycle it should be done.

“what’s wrong with tap water?”

Usually it tastes terrible and often contains bad stuff. Filtering is almost always necessary.

Another FAKE crisis, brought to you by the Chicken Little party for the purposes of separating you from your cash through enhanced taxation and scare tactics.

I tend to agree. Microplastics are a legitimate problem.

Climate change alarmism, on the other hand, is simply an excuse for those in power to gain more control, more money, more power.

The problem is not with the USA and the west

Sure it is. Have you ever looked along the streets of a typical neighborhood trash collection day? The amount of stuff being thrown away instead of reused is beyond comprehension. Think of all of the things that aren't reused anymore, how much packaging everything has.

You want to see open trash heaps and sewers? Take a cruise to a crowded port. Bright blue waters are becoming unusual, the beaches are littered with broken bottles, etc, in some places at sea there is visible trash.

It makes us live longer by plasticizing our organs. Were being preserved...

I feel the same way when I eat a Twinkies or Hostess Cup Cake. I should be preserved well into year 2080 or so.

“why use plastic water bottles in the first place?”

Good question.

Of course a paper soft drink container would have to handle a pressurized liquid — but there’s glass and aluminum for those, isn’t there?

Wax coated cardboard would be a great container for “bottled water”.

Not only agree you but think Trump would do well to divert any existing BS Globul Warming money to cleaning up plastic in the oceans.

The millennials would give HUGE thumbs up to that idea ... probably get some votes too.

I am with you on that FRiend. I have sailed across the Pacific several times in a small boat and the amount of plastic trash in the ocean is appalling.
