A heroic dad repeatedly punched a shark that almost killed his daughter in a terrifying attack in North Carolina, according to his family.
Paige Winter, 17, lost a leg and some fingers after getting mauled in the water at Fort Macon beach on Sunday.
She was airlifted 80 miles to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville where a rep told NewsChannel 12 that her heroic father saved her life.
Thank God our son was with her, Paiges grandmother Janet Winter said of Charlie Winter, a former US Marine who is also a local firefighter.
He said he punched the shark in the face 5 times before it let go.
The grandma asked for many prayers in a Facebook post and revealed that Paige would lose one leg above the knee and some fingers.
The teens mom, Marcy Winter, also asked for thoughts, prayers, vibes, manifestations, whatever you can for my Bear...."
Friends later launched a GoFundMe campaign to raise $5,000 for the family.
A familys life changed in a matter of seconds, the campaign said, confirming the amputation.
Charlie, Paiges father, Marine, Firefighter, and Paramedic has served his Country and his community for the last 20 years.
Now its time for us to rally around him and his family to help them in their time of need.

Good point.
Damn. I feel so bad for the girl.
Just a few days ago I told you how I worry about sharks every single time I go into the ocean.

I just don’t know why I read these threads or why I watch shark week on the Discovery channel.
I just can’t help myself.
Agreed. I guess some people just can't help themselves.
The guy in white has a longer reach.
The only person I saw saying this was the person to whom I responded...
He was mocking the naive bleeding heart, ignorant of history, libs who don't believe violence solves anything.
Despite this unfortunate circumstance, Paige is an unwavering advocate for the marine life and the animals who live in the water. She wishes for people to continue to respect sharks in their environment and their safety, the statement said.
Yikes...very sorry for what happened to her and praise for her father taking action in very difficult circumstances...but...you know you can respect sharks and still understand that you must use extreme violence to keep them away from you.
Is this not the perfect example of the Stockholm Syndrome that has literally taken over our society? We praise and protect that which wants nothing but to eat us alive. Its not so much different than the attitude we take when we say we must let the invasion of America happen so we can show how enlightened, kind, high-minded and virtuous we are. Its a close relative to the idea that others have a right (or even obligation) to kill us because we dont deserve to exist. The Mental sickness in todays American culture may well be terminal.
I understand that...It just seemed to be the wrong place to do it...
I agreed on that.
When this story first broke down here it was not mentioned that it was a shark. Just a marine animal. I they also did not go into the wounds she suffered. Just bites I believe they said. I’m assuming they were trying to protect the local tourist business. I never go into the water in the ocean. We go to beach on Camp Lejuene and I am terrified when I see my grandsons go in there to swim. Now even more so.
I was thinking the same thing but he may be a brawler and tune out fast after some big swings. Guy in blue looks a bit more ready to settle in for more than one round.
That’s just a guess and I have nothing but many Saturday afternoon Kung Fu theater viewings as a kid to back it up.
Peach
Prayers up for the girl and the family and a big Semper Fi to my Marine brother. Marines fight!
There were also 2 gators spotted on Topsail Beach in NC yesterday
They had a better weekend than the baseball and softball teams.
Is it me, or do shark attacks seem to be on an uptick the last couple of years?
Kakkylakky Del Norte PING
Yes. It’s what happens when environmentalists interfere with nature. Almost all sharks are protected. Seals which is their food are also protected.
We have the same problem here in commifornia. Protect all these species, Bluefin tuna, porpoise, sea lions, whales, birds, etc... and now there is no more bait fish for them to eat because they are over populating. Then blame it on the fisherman.
Stop worrying about a shark attack, and when you are in the Ocean worry about being killed in a car crash, or being struck by lightening or being hit in the head with a coconut etc.
Statistics are greatly in your favor.- Tom /s
Although the chances increase exponentially in the event that you are with somebody named Gilligan ...
