A heroic dad repeatedly punched a shark that almost killed his daughter in a terrifying attack in North Carolina, according to his family.
Paige Winter, 17, lost a leg and some fingers after getting mauled in the water at Fort Macon beach on Sunday.
She was airlifted 80 miles to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville where a rep told NewsChannel 12 that her heroic father saved her life.
Thank God our son was with her, Paiges grandmother Janet Winter said of Charlie Winter, a former US Marine who is also a local firefighter.
He said he punched the shark in the face 5 times before it let go.
The grandma asked for many prayers in a Facebook post and revealed that Paige would lose one leg above the knee and some fingers.
The teens mom, Marcy Winter, also asked for thoughts, prayers, vibes, manifestations, whatever you can for my Bear...."
Friends later launched a GoFundMe campaign to raise $5,000 for the family.
A familys life changed in a matter of seconds, the campaign said, confirming the amputation.
Charlie, Paiges father, Marine, Firefighter, and Paramedic has served his Country and his community for the last 20 years.
Now its time for us to rally around him and his family to help them in their time of need.

I couldn’t (yet) find a photo of the hero firefighter/Marine dad who saved her.
Violence is never the answer.
We need Shark Control. Do any of these Sharks even have to pass a background check before they get their teeth?
Dad displaying toxic masculinity?
Given the speed of advancements in prosthetics and tissue regeneration, this young lady may one day have those lost limbs replaced.
I dont want to see that poor Winter kid spill out all over the dock
Young Miss Paige sounds like one of those people who are resilient and able to thrive after being seriously injured. She sounds very optimistic and strong in spirit, as does the rest of her family.
Gee...what would she have said if she were dead?
Let’s hope she now believes in her human father!
A lot of people, including this girl, have accepted their position as shark food. Back in the day, there would have a clamor to make areas around public beaches shark-free.
WTH are you talking about???????
I see nothing at all humorous or “tongue-in-cheek” about a story of a young person losing a leg...
My So.Fla. high school marine biology teacher repeatedly made the statement, “Girls, if it’s that time of the month STAY OUT OF THE WATER!”
Don’t know if that was the case here but it’s worth being aware of when going to the beach.
