A Memorial Day question about RVN JUNGLE ROT. Did you get rid of it? Forever? How?
Most of the Grunts I have known and many others acquired this personal reminder of RVN.
Because of a head wound and no insurance, I used the VA for a few years and they provided a medication. After lucking into a solid health plan I went a Dermatologist once a month for a few years, it turned out he was a schemer. Last visit he was on vacation, his stand in said , the only to get rid of it was to shower and change clothes three times a day! And that was a maybe.
My father in law was a Physician, so he would call in the same prescription (Tri-???Something). Worked but it never ever disappeared.
A few of years ago the Pharmacist, a former RVN guy, said there is newer and better stuff and it is over the counter, no script needed. He recommended tow different products. LAMISIL!!! It worked well!!! But not a permanent solution? Returns every couple of weeks.
A year back I was bushwhacked by poison ivy, head eyes This Dermatologist proscribed TACROLIMUS 0.1%. for both problems. It worked like a champ!!!
And just now a year later, IT IS BACK???
I work out four times a week , bike, rollers spin bike, rower...always sweat like a horse, everything soaked, puddles under the rollers.
Has anyone found a permanent cure for jungle rot???
Sorry to hear this. My uncle served in WWII Pacifc. Skin ailments pretty much killed him. Not directly, but the decline in his quality of life was huge.
copper sulphate is great for killing algae, not sure how it effects the human body
Sadly after a time your body may adapt and accept the fungi as normal flora on your skin. Typically you have organisms growing on your body and there is a balance between those beneficial and those pathological. Medications like Triamcinolone suppress the immune response, but like all things in life the key is balance. The key may be to find a state of stasis and maintain it. Perhaps that means showering less and using a gentle soap which does not kill the beneficial organisms. Vietnam gave this to your body and your body likely preserves colonies which may not be eradicated so it is a matter of management at best. Good luck.
Hire a kid to do yardwork.
You have to rearrange your life around never sweating to avoid reversing any progress you have made.
No wonder H-wood hates her.
She is far more attractive than virtually all the bimbos and has infinitely more class.
I’ve seen zinc oxide touted as a miracle cure for everything. Might be worth a shot.
I think it was “The Kentucky Fried Movie” that had a skit spoofing the scientific/ educational films of the ‘50s or ‘60’s. “Zinc Oxide and You. “
Oops, wrong reply. Of course, it’s not my fault, but Trump’s.
Hey dipwad, are you paid to be an a-hole or is it a natural quality.
His post was 100% responsive and helpful, and you are an ass.
One of my old doctor was in nam ,before me '69. He advised me too ,to start with white cotton socks as the dye in the green wool is what first started the break down of the skin for the infection to start (right at 50-yrs. ago) he also had me use regular PINE-SOL soap on my clothes , airing my feet at night, out side the sheets. ,,,,,worked for me , in the last 50-yres only had one flare up .
Hope it doesnt affect your sleep or cause chronic headaches etc
Besides RVN, 6 June 2012 is another “alive day” for me.
An evil car took out my bike and put me in the hospital for twenty days. Months and months of repair work/therapy.
Only within the last year has my sleep started to return.
And not a scratch on my helmet!
I was wearing blaze orange spandex, still my fault?
I remember nothing, well I have a few memories, but they are false, like where it happened. I had to see the accident report to believe it, still feels weird to think about it.
Never get headaches.
I give them!
Just saying what my dad and uncle had and how they treated it and it worked for them.
Came out of the swamps of the MD eastern shore
Dumb question.
I know many people spent much time living, working, hunting fishing in wet environments, do they also get the rot?
I knew a few fellow grunts sent home, covered with it, could not be controlled in country?
Hmm - in my 1st. aid class the theory was: if it’s dry, keep it moist, if it’s moist, keep it dry. (the infection that is).
Vicks was recommended years ago, no effect for me.
I suspect I spend more time sweating more than most?
PS: If it’s bacterial he should be treated with antibiotics.
I used to use Goldbond, day and night.
The dermatologist said cornstarch is just a good.
To dry it out.
I went to the Dr once and said Doc could you have a look at this?
He said yeah, but not for to long! Put that thing away! all purple, blue, green...plaid!
