IQ rates are dropping in many developed countries and that doesn't bode well for humanity
NBC News ^ | 05/22/2019 | Evan Horowitz

People are getting dumber. That's not a judgment; it's a global fact. In a host of leading nations, IQ scores have started to decline.

Though there are legitimate questions about the relationship between IQ and intelligence, and broad recognition that success depends as much on other virtues like grit, IQ tests in use throughout the world today really do seem to capture something meaningful and durable. Decades of research have shown that individual IQ scores predict things such as educational achievement and longevity. More broadly, the average IQ score of a country is linked to economic growth and scientific innovation.

Even children born to high-IQ parents are slipping down the IQ ladder.

So if IQ scores are really dropping, that could not only mean 15 more seasons of the Kardashians, but also the potential end of progress on all these other fronts, ultimately leading to fewer scientific breakthroughs, stagnant economies and a general dimming of our collective future.

As yet, the United States hasn’t hit this IQ wall — despite what you may be tempted to surmise from the current state of the political debate. But don’t rush to celebrate American exceptionalism: If IQs are dropping in other advanced countries but not here, maybe that means we’re not really an advanced country (too much poverty, too little social support).

I’m sure that this is true. But I’ll tell you something else that is dropping to the point that it will be extinct in 10 years-COMMON SENSE. In our own country. EVERYWHERE. There are more & more people with their head up their butts. No matter what they are doing, they just CANNOT come to a decision.. On roads, in stores, banks, POLITICS, everywhere. They CANNOT analyze a situation & come to a LOGICAL A decision.
NO COMMON SENSE. It’s really scary.

In that case, it's because of inferior food, GMOs, and families that don't have a decent dinner together, but pick up nutrition-free things like pizza. Advertising contributes enormously by extolling the virtues of disgusting things like fruit-loops.

I was forced to eat boxed dry cereal during a 10-day power outage, when that's all that was left on the drugstore shelf. OMG, it's 60 - 80% sugar.

If the average IQ of Freepers was tallied I’d wager it is damned high.

I was on FB earlier reading a local news item and the comments under it. One of the comments had a full paragraph comment with no capitals or punctuation. Not a single one. Her last name was Castillo and her bio said she had a junior college education.

I wonder how much of that has to do with your own maturation and seeing the increasing distance between yourself and the more inexperienced young.

Good judgement comes from experience.
And experience comes from bad judgement.

To you and me, with our ages of experience, the immaturity of those following looks ever greater. Of course by that point, we’re just old farts who always complain. LOL

When I get out, I'm changing my middle name to "Wayne".

"Lee" is also an option.

I had the opportunity to (try to) read “winning” MLK Day essays 15 years ago, and was appalled.

Now I’m not.

Well, if they’d teach the kids instead of brainwashing them, that might help.

I say we neuter all liberals (as if they aren’t already) and see if there is any correlation between fewer lib births and higher IQs. Let the study run for ... oh, say 100 years or so ... you know, long enough to be conclusive.

Influx of all sorts of low IQ folks.

Plus the outright, now normalized, cultural hatred of Work Ethic, Patience, Perseverance, and a Good Attitude by most “Developed Youth”.

Uber-Educated “millennials” want to be CEO their first day on the job, but hardly have the skills to dialogue or screw in a light-bulb.

I can actually see that playing out more often than not. I see it every day in the business world since I’m in Sales.

We meet with Engineers, Architects, Data Scientists etc. Sure most of these guys probably can beat me in the IQ test, but most of them have the personalities of walnut, they cannot speak publicly (and when they do they lose the audience because of ego), their humor is nil, and hence they paint themselves into a wall for the rest of their career because you can be the smartest guy in the room but if you don’t have any social skills nobody gives a rip about what you say.

It’s not hard to make more money than these “know it alls”.

Most analytical people need to learn how to speak publicly and practice very hard wearing the socializing mask if they ever wish to be in leadership.

So yes, score is not the ultimate determining factor of success by any means.

I was a technical supervisor and spoke publicly with ease.
My problem was having such a laser focus on the tasks I performed, my boss decided I wasn’t a team player. In my at home life, I am anti-social, so maybe the laser focus allowed me to avoid standing around lolly-gagging with other people instead of earning my pay.LOL
