Canada's first 'body farm' to open in Quebec — and people are already signing up to be donors
National Post ^ | 16 may 2019 | Sharon Kirkey

When people ask what will happen to their corpses if they’re donated to a “body farm” for research, Dr. Shari Forbes provides them with as much, or as little detail, as they wish...

Their corpses would be left for many months, perhaps years, while scientists study how the local climate of Bécancour, Que., just across the river from Trois-Rivières, impacts the five different stages of human decomposition — fresh, bloat, active decay, advanced decay and skeletonization — or how quickly their soft tissue is lost to necrophagous insects like beetles and blow flies.

Remarkably, people are already signing on...

The world’s first body farm opened in forested land in Knoxville, Tenn., in 1980. Today, there are eight in the U.S., and one each in Holland and Australia. The Canadian facility will be the furthest north of its kind.

As for me? A nice ham bone tied to my wrist, the local coyotes will drag my remains away.

More leftist conditioning. Getting people used to the ideas of human cannibalism and sacrifice.

Rotting human corpses is also a great source of disease. Flies and mosquitos carry those diseases to the living. Canada may be open for colonization again once it’s depopulated.

Seems like plain old scientific study to me and if folks want to do it, its their dead bodies.

" . . . while scientists study how the local climate . . . impacts the five different stages of human decomposition — fresh, bloat, active decay, advanced decay and skeletonization — or how quickly their soft tissue is lost to necrophagous insects like beetles and blow flies."

There's something very creepy, very Nazi-like about this. I would guess that police forensic experts already know a great deal about the factors affecting the decomposition rate of human corpses, so there is something morbidly prurient about this line of "research." And what of value do they expect to learn? We already know that corpses rot.

Why do I suspect that this research might have some hidden endgame, whether intended or unintended? Are we being prepared to accept this kind of human disposal as some sort of entertainment, or as a gruesome punishment for the enemies of society? Or something else that I can't even imagine?

The Undertaker’s Sketch

UNDERTAKER: (Graham Chapman) Morning!

MAN: (John Cleese) Ah, good morning.

UNDERTAKER: What can I do for you, squire?

M: Um, well, I wonder if you can help me. Um, you see, my mother has just died.

U: Ah, well, we can ‘elp you. We deal with stiffs.

M: (aghast) What?

U: Well there are three things we can do with your mother. We can burn her, bury her, or dump her.

M: Dump her?

U: Dump her in the Thames.

M: (still aghast) What?

U: Oh, did you like her?

M: Yes!

U: Oh well, we won’t dump her, then. Well, what do you think: We can bury her or burn her?

M: Well, um, which would you recommend?

U: Well they’re both nasty. If we burn her, she gets stuffed in the flames, crackle, crackle, crackle, which is a bit of a shock if she’s not quite dead. But quick. And then we give you a handful of the ashes, which you can pretend were hers.

M: (timidly) Oh.

U: Or, if we bury her she gets eaten up lots of weevils and nasty maggots, which as I said before is a bit of a shock if she’s not quite dead.

M: I see. Well, she’s definitely dead.

U: Where is she?

M: She’s in this sack.

U: Let’s ‘ave a look.

(sound of bag opening)

U: She looks quite young.

M: Yes, she was.

U: (over his shoulder) Fred!

F: (Eric Idle, offstage) Yea!

U: I THINK WE’VE GOT AN EATER!

F: (offstage) I’ll get the oven on!

M: Um, er...excuse me, um, are you... are you suggesting eating my mother?

(pause)

U: Yeah. Not raw, cooked!

M: What?

U:Roasted with a few french fries, broccoli, horseradish sauce ...

M: Well, I do feel a bit peckish.

U: Great!

M: Can we have some parsnips?

U: (calling) Fred - get some parsnips.

M: I really don’t think I should.

U: Look, tell you what, we’ll eat her, if you feel a bit guilty about it afterwards, we can dig a grave and you can throw up in it.

Not much different than sewage treatment facilities, or garbage transfer stations/dumps.

"Or maybe not."

See the movie "Neon Demon." Look at the pics of some of the "spirit cooking" banquets, in which cannibalistic- and S&M-themed food fetishes are acted-out in front of a-list audiences.

The purpose of such facilities is to determine how long it takes bodies subjected to different environmental conditions to decompose. This helps forensic examiners to place the time of death more accurately. This is rather important when trying to identify a body.

This is not, as some in the thread have suggested, a prurient exercise. Ambient temperature, humidity, insect species, etc., all have an effect on the rate of decomposition. A body in Canada will not decay like a body in Alabama.

There is a body farm in Pasco County, just one county up. It’s used by forensic students and law enforcement officers for training. It is ending it’s exclusive agreement with USF, and will probably partner with FGU and UF as well. Forensic investigators get a hands on look at bodies in various states of decomposition, after various forms of death. Lot’s of people are signing up as a way to contribute after passing. I would want a solar powered voice recorder player with a proximity sensor to liven things up for the students. “ Keep your hands off me”, “HaHaHaHa”, and “Pardon me Jesus, they are messing with my body again, OK what do you want!”

I was long ago convinced.

A friend with most of his family in the ‘business’,brother a Pathology Professor at Emory, the rest owned ‘parlors’.
He went school like his kin and worked with them for a couple of years, and moved on.

He is extremely knowledgable about the work and enjoyed sharing.
If he didn’t know he was quick to make a call for an answer.

He occasionally discussed this topic.

The Negotiations

“I’ll surrender my armies and hand up my sword
depending on how you will treat me, my lord.”

The weary commander, resolve in his voice,
sized up his opponent then gave her a choice.

“Stand down your attackers, call off the strike,
and I’ll mercifully leave your head on a pike.”

“What would you do with my body below?”
the wide-eyed foreigner wanted to know.

“I’ll tie your bare limbs one each to a steed,
then drive them to gallop away at high speed.”

“And what would become of my thus quartered torso?”
“I’ll paint each limb blue then bludgeon it more so.”

“And will my piked head be looking toward home?”
the supplicant asked as the commander groaned.

“Listen, you jack-wad, you’re going to be dead.
What does it matter which way goes your head?”

With that the commander unsheathed his sword,
whacked his opponent, cut off her gourd.

The lesson, my children, to take from this bit
is get what you can; don’t sweat the small shit.

The information gained from body farms has been of immeasurable value to forensic investigators. It sounds creepy, for sure. But when one can ascertain how long a person has been dead, after it’s found in the woods and crawling with this particular bug larvae or that strain of mold, then the study of decomposing remains becomes a much-appreciated tool.

As I read this thread I find the ignorance stunning. Absolutely some of the most ignorant and stupid things I’ve read on FR in ages.

At least you folk are good for a laugh.

And here is a clue: your body is going to decay and waste away, just like the bodies in this location. The worms are going to get us all.
