Democrats will introduce legislation to mandate zero-emissions vehicles make up all new car sales by 2040. The bill is co-sponsored by three Democrats running for president in 2020 who support the Green New Deal. The internal combustion engine has long been a target for environmentalists.
Democrats will introduce legislation to completely phase out the use of gasoline-powered cars by mandating that only zero-emissions vehicles can be sold by 2040.
When I take a lungful of air in this moment, it has 30 percent more carbon in it than when I was born, Oregon Sen. Jeff Merkley, the bills main sponsor told The Huffington Post on Wednesday. That is a change that has never happened in a single generation of humankind on this planet.

I will be 72 and they will still have to run me down in my Dodge Charger and I will make sure I have nitrous by then!!
I HATE being told what to do or what to buy!!!!
I hate even MORE being told what I CAN’T DO or BUY!
Insanity.
Yeah, well, I’ll be 93 and they’ll have to pry the key FOB for my Ram out of my arthritic fingers.
I’m shopping for a new water heater to replace a 75 gallon unit. I was told yesterday that 75 and 100 gallon electric water heaters are banned. The contractor proposed installing TWO 50 gallon units side by side.
Like you, I HATE being controlled by those GD bastards in government.
It’s about control.
CO2 has nothing to do with it.
It’s just the convenient vehicle.
I just hope there are enough semi-sane people in Congress and the bill won’t pass.
Soon by a government near you - ration cards. The state will issue ration cards controlling how many miles you can drive in a month (it is for the children). Everyone will get one card for 100 miles, sorry if you have to drive further but we have to save the earth don’t you know. /S (was “s” really needed?
LOL
I’ve noticed I can’t tell a person’s age by their posts.
I thought you were around the same age as me.
It’s good to know that 20 years from now I’ll still be funny and sharp still :)
Well, not that I ever was :)
Ciao!
This initiative has nothing to do with protecting the environment. Automobiles represent freedom and movement. Statists want to restrict everyone.
I hate and despise the gov-co control freaks.
AMEN!
This crap has to be turned back too.
The global climate nonsense makes the McCarthy issue look like nothing.
At least what he was talking about was REAL!
They are just whipping up a SCARE. And so many are falling for it.
I’ll be 90 and riding an electric vehicle anyway.
What’s with the liberal tendency to say “humankind” instead of “mankind”?
I realize that liberals think that the word mankind is offensive to women, because it has “man” in it. But humankind also has “man”. So they are still not achieving the goal of elimination of reference to man.
By 2040, battery-electric cars and fuel-cell cars would have the same range (and same recharging/refueling rate) as today’s gasoline-fueled cars. In fact, battery charging rates would be almost the same as fueling a gasoline fueled car possibly as early as 2026.
Forget about the impossibility of meeting this goal and the cost of it if we did.
The only people who are going to support this is that small slice of Americans who are severe environmentalists and Climat Chage warriors.
I view this as a positive-—for Trump and the GOP. Most folks are not convinced that electric cars are for them yet.
This idiots think if they mandate this, we will buy electric cars from Detroit.
Obama already tried this and failed.
Not sure if this is pro-Tesla or anti-Tesla legislation as Musk has fallen out of favor with the Uber-Left.
banned by whom? are you in a upper floor condo?
Ill be 96 or not present and I plan to get one more car before Im too old - hopefully a 1000hp gas fueled mid engined corvette
And the power plants that will generate the electricity to charge all those batteries will be fueled by fairy dust.
