I hope absorbing sunscreen into your body does not cause cancer.

A flannel shirt and a cowboy hat make a great sunscreen.

It turns your blood from red to a nice copper bronze color.

Not using sunscreen is bad.
Using sunscreen is bad.
Sunlight is bad.
No sunlight is bad.
So how much sunscreen and what kind will give me the best benefit to risk ratio for a given amount of sunlight?

Of course it does, breathing does too
To: BitWielder1
I wonder if plain old lotion would be as effective.

Has anyone figured out that we're all supposed to be on something...whether it's sunscreen, pain killers, blood thinners, probiotics, uppers, downers. Too much unnecessary junk in and on our body.
Let's say EVERYTHING causes cancer. It's the amount that will trigger it.
When we fished in Canada every year, Dad ALWAYS made us wear a hat and a life jacket.

A dab will do it, then wear a hat and spf 50 shirt and have fun!

It’s more about the time in the sun.
To: SMGFan
Everything causes cancer... if we’re prone to it.

There are sunscreens that use zinc, and none of the chemicals mentioned above

So it seems the next question would be, are these chemicals carcinogenic and could they increase the risk for skin cancer?

Best is probably none, just don’t over due the sun. There was a meta study a few years back, our sunscreen usage keeps going up, but so does our skin cancer rate. The main theory is that sunscreen probably doesn’t block the part that causes cancer, but by keeping you from getting burned is does prevent your body’s early warning system that tells you to get out of the sun before you get cancer.

This reminds me of something I was once on David Letterman back when I watched the show about 30 years ago. It was one of his “Top Ten” lists of popular programs twenty years into the future. One of the programs was “NBC White Paper - Oat Bran: The Silent Killer” (they were putting oat bran in everything when he made that list).

Well in a way they are right. He had to leave after two terms so I guess that would be seen as helping the economy.

So another product designed to protect but makes the user careless instead.
Makes sense, actually.

Mouse abuse also causes cancer.

When we fished in Canada every year, Dad ALWAYS made us wear a hat and a life jacket. Your Dad was wise. I have gone to Canada on fishing trips for close to 40 years. The worst time to go is late spring and early summer. That is the time the big fish are on the prowl in shallow waters. The bugs and weather can be really bad. After about 20 years we figured out late July and early August was the best time to go. Virtually no bugs and the fishing was just as good if one fished a little deeper. The drawback is can be very hot during midday on occasions.
