I just updated to Oreo OS on my gorgeous Samsung Galaxy S8 and them sum beeches at Google changed all my icons to some book chit with frames and there is zero possibility to change back to original theme and icons.
They also effed my texts and a few other things.
I can't stand this cartoonish theme buttons!
They are for 4-7 year olds and took my very professional looking phone down to etch-a-sketch looking crap.
Rant off...
I will upgrade to iPhone on my birthday and Samsung/Google can go to hell...
Wasted quite a bit of money upgrading to this phone, only to have them down grade it
Oh, just realized they also dropped the video player to some asinine klugee thing as well.
Sure, I can go download other apps and customize but, damnit! It was fine the way it was and I dont have time to create new themes
FOAD Google... You made me waste hundreds of dollars.
Plicks....
I most certainly did not give you permission to eff up my phone...
They did.
I found how to turn it back on in settings but, forget where.
Ours was the mustard colored wall phone. With the 10 foot coil cord ;’}
Before I retired, I worked in an industry whose equipment operating software was upgraded maybe every year or two, necessitating the tech group to learn new, sometimes radically different, programming.
Now, I find that equipment in my own house gets new parameters unannounced, sometimes creating a real hassle in relearning. And sometimes it’s an improvement, but that’s not the way to bet. ;)
Ours was the creme colored one. The 10’ coil cord had an effective length of about 5’ due to knots and tangles.
I kicked yahoo to the curb when I was around 12 years old. Yahoo, hotmail, aol and other relics. Over the years, many of them have “upgraded” to some form without vigor or any survival qualities whatsoever, and these I have avoided easily though I’m still, imo, rather ignorant about all things tech. My phone is semi-smart, like me, but unlike me it’s smarter than it needs to be. If they mess with it, I’ll have two choices, an antique clamshell or an overpriced Apple product. Either way I’ll be shamed. Millennials will mock the grannyphone and boomers will think me profligate. (It’ll be the Apple, it takes better photos.)
Adjustments are inevitable. Eventually the roads are for automobiles and your horse, even with a buggy attached, belongs in the back pasture.
It’s just a tool, after all. If you depend on it too much, well, maybe you depend on it too much.
Ah, the car. You saying they don't make changes to your car? Lucky you! I traded an old, very fuel-efficient car that never peeped a warning light at me about anything, for a shiny Jeep that is constantly jonesing for fuel and has an epileptic computer that freaks out every few days about the braking system, the tire pressure, and a half-dozen other non-problems. When it has one of its seizures, the turn signals don't work. The dealer can't replicate the phenomenon, so it can't be fixed.
Meanwhile the mfr (that is, manufacturer) will send me notes telling me I need to get some recalled thing or other attended to. My next car, when I have the free time to shop, will be an antique with no computer. Something a juvenile delinquent can fix with a wrench and a rag.
As for GPS, on long drives I take along my old man, and a map. He needs that map like the jd needs the rag. Not.
For old phones, there’s no place like ebay.
Landline phones are now connected to the fiber network very close to the premises, and often don’t work when the power is out. That nice redundancy is gone in most places.
Not that every Android phone doesn't already spy on us...
Gosh. I read this thread and the replies....
All I can say is “First World Problems.”

There is a free or purchase program called NOVA in the playstore. You can customize any of your looks. It’s extensive. This doesn’t address how an app may look once you click into it. Maybe this helps?
Another comment on an Android board
Samsung should send hello kitty case with the upgrade. Android Pie/OneUI turned my Note8 into a 12 year old girls diary
.
LOL
Just went and looked at
Promising...
The DVR that came with my cable service has graphics and procedures designed, it feels like, for second-graders or tech-terrified oldsters. I replaced it with a TIVO Bolt with six tuners and a grownup interface. World of difference.
Their latest upgrade also reduced my battery power to one day. I fixed it by entering SETTINGS, APPS, and GOOGLE PLAY SERVICES. Turn off the various services you don’t use, and the battery will now last for days.
Look in your settings for wallpapers, icons, themes. See if you have anything in there you like better. And, there us stuff you can download if you don’t mind samsung knowing all your business.
I liked oreo, but i hate pie. They really mess things up with that one and it eats more battery, also.
My icons didn’t change after the update. I use Nova Launcher, so maybe that’s why.
I turned it back on, but it didn’t come on.
