FULL TITLE: Woman Gets Uber Driver Fired For Refusing To Take Her To Get An Abortion. Now She's Looking To Sue Him.
A 20-year-old college student in upstate New York reported an Uber driver for refusing to take her to get an abortion. According to the womens account, which was reported on by Yahoo! Style (UK), the ride-sharing company canned the pro-lifer.
But now the woman is looking to take legal against the driver.
Im in college in upstate NY and I dont have a car on campus because its expensive, she wrote in a message posted to Reddit earlier this month.
Im 20 years old and I found out I was pregnant and subsequently decided I wanted an abortion because Im in no position to care for a child, the woman said.
She found a clinic about an hour from her university, because the nearby Planned Parenthood had a schedule that didnt work for her. Because I dont have a car, I rely on Uber and [L]yft to get me places, she said.
The student then recounted her interaction with the Uber driver, who attempted to dissuade the woman from choosing abortion before telling her he could not drive her to the clinic.
My appointment was at 11:30am so at 9:58am my Uber arrived and he immediately seemed uncomfortable. After about five minutes in the car, he asked, are we going to a planned parenthood? I said no (because we werent), but it set off alarm bells that he would even ask that, she recounted. The destination I put in was just the name of the doctor and the address of the clinic, there was nothing that would suggest it was an abortion clinic. After a few more minutes he asked, are we going to an abortion clinic?

If not for my comment, that would have been maybe a 10 post thread.
Instead of so many :)
You are right. What a lousy decision to have to make!!
My thinking is the odds of the next driver caring are almost ZERO, so the best shot is talking her out of it.
And if you don’t by the time you are about to arrive...TAKE OFF!!! :)
Then go to jail.
We CANT force that kind of change.
It has to come from the heart.
As HORRIBLE as it is, also, we are a nation of laws and horribly, it is legal right now.
I know people would go nuts on that one, but it’s not like any of us want to block the entrance with guns, because it IS illegal and we will go to prison.
I’m hoping Trump gets two more SCOTUS picks.
And praying.
This woman, and others like her, should be rendered irreversibly sterile.
I'd say probably because it makes it easier to play the holier-than-thou card or rationalize attacks against Prolife people. The pro-abortion side always lays the same accusation yet for some reason never seems to acknowledge that the care of a child SHOULD be the responsibility of those who recklessly conceive the human being.
I recently heard some pro-abortion person toss out that same argument, that pro-life people were no good because they didn't want to support the (inconvenient, unwanted) baby, sure, what about the two people who CONCEIVED the child stepping up and taking care of it?
So when did this sea change take place in our culture, when babies stopped being seen as a blessing from heaven and instead became a wart or hangnail to be clipped off?
I recently went through some old (microfilm) local newspapers from the early 1960s. What an eye-opener into our culture then. Look at the ads, the stories. All the celebrations of weddings, of young couples, marital advice, birth announcements, baby pictures, baby clothes...
Also, 90 percent here will scream for the death penalty when a number of unwanted kids who are born go on to murder.
How about we HELP these kids once theyre born??
Instead of patting ourselves on the back at Sunday dinner for doing the right thing.
The RIGHT THING would be following through in helping them once they are brought into this earth and not stopping our concern at the point of birth

One of the more interesting posts I have seen lately...Sadly, FRiend, I think you are misguided.
“90% here will scream for death penalty...”
What in the world does being convicted with the death penalty for an adult committing murder of another innocent human being have to do with protecting innocent babies in the womb (and now in 2019 born in the first 24 hours) from being murdered? And what are the other 10% here screaming? Please explain your comments...Seriously, I am totally confused.
And why in the world do you think “we” are not helping “these” kids once they are born? Please explain.
Many couples have paid or are paying thousands of dollars for various conception therapies and/or foreign baby adoption...If not for abortion, I suspect that many couples could easily (and likely cheaply) adopt the babies that mothers did not want—how better to ‘help “these” kids once they are born...”
And what do you mean “patting ourselves on the back at Sunday dinner for doing the ‘right thing’ ??? Do you think allowing Abortion is the right thing? Please explain.
There are Pro-Life centers that do help with “these” kids. Once they are born churches and our government agencies—City, County, State, and Federal offer a plethora of programs...Womb to the Tomb...I don’t know what your tax bracket is, but many of us “here who are patting ourselves on the back” are paying over 50% of our income in combined taxes, many of which are going to help “these children.”
“RIGHT THING?” The RIGHT THING would be to stop murdering innocents!!
I strongly suggest you go watch the movies Unplanned and Gosnell—if you have the courage. In fact, I dare you to watch those movies because they very likely will change your outlook.
If you dare not watch the movies, perhaps you might watch the YouTube Project Veritas videos regarding Planned Parenthood selling of baby parts...
Just a gentle reminder, FRiend, that this is a pro-life website...
What man would want this monster?
Not one in his right mind.
“wanted an abortion ‘because Im in no position to care for a child,’”
It appears she had no problem finding a “position” to MAKE a child.
I'm not justifying it, merely pointing out that the middle of Washington DC, next to the National Mall, is not the "middle of nowhere."
Ahhh, slap my head, thanks for clarifying.
He was really caught between a rock and a hard place. My understanding is that he didn’t know initially, where she was going or what for.
He couldn’t participate in it with a clear conscience, nor should he be forced to.
He couldn’t stay around any longer after abruptly dismissed, else he ran the risk of being accused of stalking.
He certainly couuldn’t take her back without kidnapping charges.
No matter what he did, he would have gotten skewered for it, as he has.
Funny that the loser boyfriend helped her call a taxi but would not take her there.
That sometimes is a consequence of abortion.
Yeah, imagine what went through his mind when she called to tell him her pro-life Uber driver refused to drive her all the way. Per her own account, boyfriend told her to calm down, call a cab, call the doctors and explain why she was running late. Sounds like he wanted to make sure she didn't back out. ;-)
Then again, this whole story could be fake. For all we know, the pregnancy and even the boyfriend and the Uber driver are fictional (?). Who knows...
Apparently parents and boyfriend are all back home in North Carolina.
