Parked Tesla Spontaneously Explodes In Chinese Garage

About 24 hours ahead of Tesla’s coming “Investor Day” and just moments after we broke the news that Tesla had been granted a restraining order on a short seller who has been critical of the company on Twitter, stunning video has surfaced of a Tesla catching fire and exploding, while parked.

A self proclaimed Tesla owner in Shanghai that Tweets under the name @ShanghaiJayIn posted video on his Twitter moments ago of what appears to be a Tesla Model S, 1st generation, catching fire spontaneously in a Chinese parking garage.

Video at the bottom shows the aftermath of the fire…

Aftermath hopefully we will hear from Tesla what truly happened. pic.twitter.com/DuFi0pW9dk

So I can see that leaving one’s dog in the Tesla for a few minutes unattended is OUT OF THE QUESTION.

Oh come now, Teslas are no more fire-prone than Ferraris.

Forget it...he’s on a roll.
(probably meant hydrogen, the explosive gas that is released during lead-acid battery recharging).

There’s no key to turn in a Tesla, and no “start” button.

Please educate us. How does one “activate” or “engage” the engine or power of the car, to drive it? With no key or start button, how does one accomplish the task of getting the car going?

I drove a Chevy ban in 1970 for a Severna Park parts store. The fuel mixture would catch on fire in the carburator. The engine cover, inside the van, had to be removed to put out the fire. Ah, the good ole days.

You sit in the driver’s seat, grab the wheel and foot on the brake, and the car is ready to drive. It actually powers up as you approach the vehicle.

Batteries are nasty things. My boss's car was destroyed by an Iphone battery. A little iphone battery melted the windows and ignited the interior. Non expert guess what that the interior of the car was around 700F (to melt the glass).

I carry 2 fire extinguishers in my 66 landcruiser at all times, though I did rewire the whole thing. Will brag and say my wiring is bad ass though. Been a year and a half and did not pop a single fuse, and I isolated the ignition wiring so you can pretty much destroy most of the wiring and the fuse box and it will still run...so guess I did better than Tesla. The lighting and accessories have essentially unlimited power available with no measurable voltage drops

BMW has issued recalls for fire problems here and elsewhere as well. In South Korea, it seemed as if there was a BMW fire every day or so within the last six months. Korean Local TV news certainly heavily covered these fires.

my old 55 ford truck could do it on cue with an accelerator press and release... when my immature friend found out, he kept a toy gun in the glove box to fire at random...

i was soooo stupid then...

It would take a coupla tons of wet sand to put out a lithium fire like that. Squirt water on it and it’ll explode bigger.
