Rise and dine — and give yourself time to digest before bed.

That’s the bottom line from a new study published Thursday in the European Journal of Preventive Cardiology, which found that people who skip breakfast and eat a late dinner have much worse health outcomes after surviving a heart attack.

In fact, people who did both of these (common) eating habits were four to five times more likely to die, have another heart attack or suffer chest pain within 30 days after leaving the hospital.

“Our research shows that the two eating behaviors are independently linked with poorer outcomes after a heart attack, but having a cluster of bad habits will only make things worse,” wrote study author Dr. Marcos Minicucci, of São Paulo State University in Brazil.

He also warned that “People who work late may be particularly susceptible to having a late supper and then not being hungry in the morning.”

Anecdotal evidence presented as science. Again.

It’s pretty much replaced real science in the age of grant-driven “research.”

Didn’t we, recently have a post telling us that skipping breakfast was healthy for us?

If not, wait a week, one will come.

Health advice is like catching a bus. If you miss one, there will always be another.

significantly increases risk of death after heart attack

The probability of death after a heart attack is 100%. It might be years afterwards, but it is inevitable.

I think that all depends on the person and WHAT they eat.

Should I have a heart attack, I WANT it to be fatal.

I always eat breakfast - because I never know when the day becomes “that day”, and may be the last decent meal I have for a while.

Yep, back in the day I was a dedicated 5 times a week jogger of 3 miles. Read Fixx book and he had it down to a physiological science. Then whoops!

He died of heart disease and ran a lot because he thought running would heal him. He was wrong.

You should feel hungry in the morning. If you dont, you are still digesting yesterday’s late meal. Just converted myself. Feel much better.

When I asked my doctor about not eating breakfast, she told me not to eat if I wasn't hungry and not to worry about it. She told me that my body knows my individual needs better than any study does. My experience has been the opposite of yours - I feel better if I don't try to force myself to eat breakfast.

Oh yeah. Everyone is different. For example, snacking and sugar is good for me. You dont want to eat if you are not hungry. The problem is the night before, but that is just the way you have adapted. Yeah and any changes will cause a bad reaction at first. I combined a switch to early eating and detox. Brought out some old problems. Addressed them with proper diet. Finally got the right cure and feel like a new person. Some people, like myself, may have used a shifted diet to cover up some other issue.
