A virus (AFM - acute flaccid myelitis) appears to be the cause behind a rash of polio-like illnesses that struck Minnesota last fall,
causing paralyzing symptoms in several children, including one girl who lost all motor function and remains hospitalized.
Researchers from Minnesota and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported Thursday
that they found Enterovirus-D68 in the spinal fluid of one of six children
who suffered acute flaccid myelitis, or AFM.
The first public reports of AFM in 2018 showed up in Minnesota, which ended the year with 10 of the nation’s 228 confirmed cases.
EV-D68 has been suspected for some time as a cause, in part because of surveillance data since 2012
showing that spikes in AFM cases emerged in lockstep with the virus every other fall in 2014, 2016 and 2018.

So, yes, it would seem to suggest oral ingestion, as opposed to rhino (nose) as the source of entry.
The virus was only realized and identified in the US around 1962 so little is known about it,
except by how the human body responds to infection - full, or partial paralysis.
Given its alternate year flareups, it manifests itself episodically, and then seems to become quiescent.
It was this periodic pattern that initially drew much of the medical attention and research,
as well as the fact that it primarily infects mostly children.
The means to identify different viri requires the use of an electron microscope, due to virus size (measured in microns).
An optical microscope is almost useless in identifying a virus.

Yes .... the medical team has changed from vaccine to the condition being caused by a virus.
I think doctors are busy trying to find the source of the paralysis.
If they had discovered this earlier, they may have been able to do something.
I believe in miracles.
Do we think alike? I've been suspicious about the big push to scare those who had been skeptical to embrace vaccinations because of a measles "epidemic" of less than 600 cases.
Next week, will we be told that all those people getting the measles vaccination, some because laws have been passed that they had to, stopped the "epidemic"? And not long after that will there be a big push to stop this new polio-like epidemic? And now there will be more complete records of whom to target.
Conspiracy theory, for sure. Seems to me a real lot of conspiracy theories we later learn are true.

That’s OK - I saw the post and it didn’t impugn me in any way and didn’t bother me that I wasn’t pinged (did the same thing a time or two to others and that’s how I first learned about the expected courtesy).
No harm - no foul....plus, my skin is thick enough that even if someone impugns me, I won’t lose any sleep or suffer any anxiety if they omit the courtesy...

When they have time, maybe the family would want to contact some of the other families and doctors mentioned in the article to start an online support group and info exchange. Just a thought.
