So, yes, it would seem to suggest oral ingestion, as opposed to rhino (nose) as the source of entry.
The virus was only realized and identified in the US around 1962 so little is known about it,
except by how the human body responds to infection - full, or partial paralysis.
Given its alternate year flareups, it manifests itself episodically, and then seems to become quiescent.
It was this periodic pattern that initially drew much of the medical attention and research,
as well as the fact that it primarily infects mostly children.
