Former White House counsel Don McGahn resigned instead of firing Mueller

Special counsel Robert Mueller’s report confirms media reports that former White House counsel Don McGahn was pressured by Trump to fire Mueller. According to Mueller’s report, McGahn was directed by Trump to tell Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein that “Mueller has to go.” After those conversations, McGahn said he was going to quit, packed up his office, and told then-chief of staff Reince Priebus that the president had asked him to “do crazy shit.” The media began to report on the story in January 2018, and Trump publicly denied the reports, calling them “fake news.”

nevertheless, PDJT was correct and should have fired the whole pile of them right at the start when it became evident it was a witch-hunt

The only crime Mr. Trump is guilty of, it seems to me, is in his selection of attorneys — if this is even true.

I don't blame McGann, if he was sincerely worried about creating a 'Saturday Night Massacre' redux. He may have been correct.

Such a firing was not made as DJT probably thought better of it. Nor would the firing have ended the investigation.

Good gossip but nothing more.

If that is something Trump really wanted then why didn’t he have McGahn’s replacement or another of his lawyer’s do it?

I call #MuellerBS on this.

If Trump wanted to fire Mueller, then Mueller would have been gone. If thoughts of murder were the same of murder Trump would be guilty. You can not, nor should you have to prove your innocence.

What’s ironic is that firing Mueller would have been an idiotic move politically, but Mueller’s report is basically an admission that he never should have been hired in the first place.

They may wish they had been fired or resigned when criminal scrutiny comes to their leaks and lies.

"I would have said yes sir, done an about face and fired the son of an bitch."

McGahn showed what a chicken-$hit he was, and what a worthless POS he was to the Trump Administration. Thankfully he outted himself, and left without having to be tossed out on his ear.

So, in June 2017, Trump spouts off that "Mueller has to go." McGahn interprets that as an order to fire Mueller and packs up his office to resign. Trump rescinds the "order" if it ever was that and McGahn spends another almost year and a half in the White House and then goes back into private practice.

What a nothingburger! But, Chris Matthews will spit and foam at the mouth and CNN will convene a half dozen "panels" to explain how this is a capital crime that Mueller somehow missed.

Clue: The White House Counsel CANNOT “fire Mulehead.” Doesn’t anyone bother to look at this stuff?

Exactly. A Saturday night massacre was warranted. However it was necessary to let it play out so that it would be obvious to everyone.

Priebus resigned on July 27, 2017 as chief of staff. The article mentions 2018 as being the hear the story was reported.

Does not pass the smell test.

This makes no sense. He fires Mueller but the buck stops with the President anyway. So he’s fired. You obstructed justice Mr. President! Uh no I didn’t. Well, well you fired him. Ok next. Now in retrospect it’s confirmed there was no collusion, or conspiracy or anything else with the big bad Russians. So he fired the goof who headed what turned out found it to be an empty claim. The Dems have created a three ring circus.

NYT reported he extensively cooperated with the muller witch hunt investigation, did three interviews with over 30 hours over nine months.

So much for lawyer client confidentiality, it isn’t worth much when the lawyer has the spine of a snail...

Trump simply needs to apologize for not hiring better people, not firing everyone early on. He trusted the wrong people.
