Monday's horrific fire at the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris shocked viewers everywhere, as they witnessed the horrific destruction and collapse of its iconic spire, before firefighters were able to get it under control.
While many prominent figures tweeted concern for the cathedral sacred to over a billion Catholics across the globe, controversial Muslim Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) put out a bizarre tweet that rubbed many the wrong way.
"Art and architecture have a unique ability to help us connect across our differences and bring people together in important ways," posted Rep. Omar. "Thinking of the people of Paris and praying for every first responder trying to save this wonder."
Huh? "Art and architecture"?
Notre Dame is French for Our Lady and is a Catholic name for the Virgin Mary, Mother of God who gave birth to Jesus.
That Omar could not even bring herself to name the cathedral or even mention that it is a church, brought instant reaction online.

If you faith to appraise the religious significance of Notre Dame you completely fail to appreciate it architecturally.

So bland and non-specific, it had to be a group effort; has “staff” written all over it.
I have trouble taking umbrage at this particular statement...I acknowledge that Notre dame has become a Christian icon but the art and architecture is what makes it irreplaceable (hope they can do a super job with restoration and not have any more “accidents” along the way).
A building is a building and does not house God or drive religion...physical objects can be desecrated/ruined/destroyed, but that which folks relate them to cannot be tainted or harmed in any way by human hands....God stand on His own merits and does not need ‘things’ to glorify Himself....our hearts and souls are the objects He desires for His glorification.

Conciliatory is not in this woman’s makeup. The tweet’s lack of stridency tells me someone penned this for her nor does it reflect the true hatred in her heart
They have no spiritual significance to me. Why should Notre Dame "mean" something to Omar?

Christ Our God (and Our Lady "Notre Dame") want a sanctuary to, in her words, "magnify the Lord." A temple of living stones, the "pierres vivantes" of Paris. And if they, the pierres vivantes, wish to build a magnificent jewel of architecture in His name, and to honor His Holy Mother whom He Himself loves and honors, then God be praised.
But a historic restoration honoring "our diversity" for the glory of France? That would be an idol. Even the Muslims know that.
