A robot punctured a can of bear spray. Now 24 Amazon workers are
Twenty-four Amazon workers in New Jersey have been hospitalized after a robot accidentally tore a can of bear repellent spray in a warehouse, officials said.
The two dozen workers were treated at five local hospitals, Robbinsville Township communications and public information officer John Nalbone told ABC News. One was in critical condition while 30 additional workers were treated at the scene.
All of the workers were expected to be released from the hospital within 24 hours, WABC reported Thursday.
The official investigation revealed "an automated machine accidentally punctured a 9-ounce bear repellent can, releasing concentrated Capsaican," Nalbone said. Capsaicin is the major ingredient in pepper spray.
The fulfillment center was given the all clear by Wednesday evening.

Thanks to AOC accidents like this will not happen in NYC
“after a robot accidentally tore”
Accidently, huh?
That will come out of there pay-checks plus their credit at the company store will be cut.
The robot will get more oil and maintenance.
Great, now every can of bear spray is going to have to carry a warning stating “Not intended for indoor use”.
The robot was hospitalized?\
Is that covered under ZeroCare?
Was that wrong? Should I not have done that? I tell you, I gotta plead ignorance on this thing, because if anyone had said anything to me at all when I first started here that that sort of thing is frowned upon... you know, cause I've worked in a lot of offices, and I tell you, people do that all the time.
Somebody must have cussed out an Alexa. What they don’t know is that Alexa is tight with the robots who are sworn to uphold her honor. Bear spray is just the beginning.
The article was from December, before Christmas. I remember when it happened. The robot squeezed too hard.
At least the robot didn’t drive a car down the aisles taking out workers.
Again ? The Robots are up to something
I imagine that they do.
In Alaska they have special containers you need to put your bear spray in before you can put it in the small aircraft. I hope they didn’t learn that from experience!
Wow, Amazon really prepared their robots for anything, including bear attacks.
after a robot accidentally tore Accidently, huh?
The robot issued a carefully-worded apology in a press statement. I guess its up to you if you believe the robot was sincere.
Based on the headline:
1) I didn’t know they had hospitals for Robots.
2) Sounds like low class trash, crowding up the waiting room with 24 people while the robot got treated.
3) I didn’t know bear spray worked on robots.
“Accidentally”.
Yeah sure.
This happened nearly 6 months ago, and was posted on FR at the time.
“All of the workers were expected to be released from the hospital within 24 hours...”
NJ weak t!ts? LOL!
When *I* was a kid, we’d spray Bear Spray on our TOAST in the mornings, choke it down on our 5-mile hike to school...
...and we LIKED it! ;)
