MONTICELLO, Iowa (AP) Federal investigators say a small plane crash that killed a 90-year-old pilot near an eastern Iowa airport was likely caused by the pilots decision to allow his large dog near the flight controls.
The final National Transportation Safety Board report says investigators dont know for certain what caused the single-engine aircraft to go down in a cornfield in June 2017 near Monticello Regional Airport. However, the report says, the dog that weighed about 75 pounds likely came in contact with the flight controls during landing, which resulted in the pilots loss of airplane control.

He had a light sport license see #30
Those things carry rabies.................
In the 70’s you’d see people driving along eating a bowl of cereal.
Hahaha.. the days when SNL had a few funny skits.
Better for a 97 year old to pilot a small private plane than drive a car. In case of a crash he would likely only kill himself.
Any landing you can dog-trot away from is a good one.
I’ve seen that too many times, and it is so wrong! Back seat, dog!
In my small town I love to register my dog early—his current license is #24. Maybe I can bribe someone in town hall to make him #1. ;-)
I worked with a guy who could roll a joint while driving...
And the lady with a pa key of floss jammed in the sun visor....flossing her teeth using the mirror....passing me in fast lane doing 70
There are better ways to leave this mortal coil than stupidly crashing a plane with your dog that could have caused death and destruction on the ground
Yeah, but this could have worked out badly or deadly for others. No?
It was a poor choice with a poor and sad outcome.
He called his dog “Darwin”.
Saturday we went to the zoo.

They are just guessing that the dog had anything to do with the crash, when it’s much more likely the 90 year old pilot was 100% responsible.
She rear ended the guy so hard it knocked the mascara brush right out of her hand.
Its not like the sky cops are gonna ask for his papers.
Leave me alone! I’m OLD!!!
Thanks...Wondered about that AFTER I posted...
Haven’t kept up with changes...No such back in the day...
Im thinking of going for this license. Between age and medical issues it would probably be the only kind of license I could get.
Ive taken lessons back 45-50 years ago but never got a license.
“Did he have a license?...................”
Yes, and rabies shots too!
