So,
I live in the city. And every couple of months, Id get a slow leak in one of my tires. I figured that was normal as I work in an area with a highly unusual amount of metal shavings on the pavement.
Well, last week, I had another slow leak, so I went to the tire store:
Hey! Mr. Hawthorne! because if they had a frequent customer program, Id have a full set of NASCAR tires. The co-owner takes a look at it and says Youve already got 3 patches and two nails in there. I can put another couple of patches on it, but you really shouldnt have more than three.
Now, I dont advertise my Conservatism, but in a deep blue precinct, folks just seem to know. (I also happen to be a member of a profession that liberals despise and illegals hate. Ive been seen in semi or full uniform at times).
So, Im not moving, out of the question. Any suggestions on how to catch the offender on this caper? Again, to help visualise, row homes, one next to the other, on street parking. (The local gendarmes are sympathetic)
FReepers are the greatest resource on earth for this stuff, thanks in advance, and any humor will be welcome.
turanza tires are nearly indestructible and last 3-4 years.
You know, that's what my wife suggested.
But I responded:
"I'm a super nice guy! Everybody loves me! You're the bitch!"
FWIW- no response, and the first rhetorical victory in 26 years of marriage.
My system is from Comcast. I can monitor it remotely from my phone or tablet. If thats an option check them out. Other providers like ADT and Brinks do the monthly fee model. I bought multiple cameras and I can set them to monitor wherever I like.
Or you can buy something but youll have to set it all up yourself. Im not sure if youre comfortable with that or not.
A friend of mine has Ring and is very pleased with it. It you have a larger pile of money laying around give a licensed and bonded security contractor a call and get a quote. In fact get a couple quotes.
Amazon has a bunch of systems by several makers. Dig around there and be sure to read the reviews.
Hope this helps.

Isn't it funny/disturbing/frightening that liberals can put "Love defeats hate"/"Hate has no place here" signs on their cars/lawns/homes/businesses, but we can't do the same?
All the hate is coming from just one side.
Won’t help.
It’ll just be something else on his car.
You can buy a remarkably good deer camera for less than $100.
No flash, good night vision, and already camo’ed. Will hold 10K pictures.
Malicious damage is to the sidewalls normally. This doesn’t sound right. What kind of nails are they? Some nails and screws won’t leak until the head wears off. I had a screw take 2 months to start leaking. (I knew exactly when and where I picked it up.)
“Anyone in your hood a roofer that brings home his dump trailer?”
I had to drive down a road that contained 2 dumps going to work. I kept 2 spares and just dropped off one and picked up the other. I didn’t go a week between flats.
They are setting the nails to puncture your tire as you drive off. You have to check your tires for nails leaning up on them and you have to set up a hidden cam or a deer cam.
I'm going to need a new set (after 36k miles? Is that normal?) and am DEFINITELY upgrading. I'll check those out! Thanks for the tip! Much appreciated.
How many miles would you guess? And, they're good in the snow? That's crucial, my wife and I both HAVE to be at work in a snowstorm, and we live close enough that "Can't get there 'cause of the snow" would be recognized as a lie immediately.
Nails would be too slow for their satisfaction.
Now if someone had the brains to nick a brake line, solider the damage so thaf only when the brake fluid went to high temp to melt the solider....that would be a real problem.
I have “Driveway Patrol” and it can be pointed where your car is parked. It will go off inside your house giving you a chance to catch them in the act.
Get one of those magnets on a stick like the ones sold in Tractor Supply. Run it under the front and the back of your tires before you leave each day.
Have you had your valve stem(s) checked? They can get brittle and crack be slow leak culprits! This happened to me once, got the valve stem replaced and no more leaks since.
Would need more information to make sure you’re not going somewhere that would cause you to get nails other than by foul play, so to speak. Then, we could take steps.
My local CVS drug store sells these little cube cameras and they are motion activated. They are around one inch square and record. They are around 30 dollars. You could stick one anywhere.
Heres a thought. It could be your friendly tire dealer. The reason I say this is that we used to take our Toyota to one particular Toyota dealership for routine service. On more than one occasion they would find a nail causing a flat needing repair or replacement.
Hmm. This is bad. Then one day my wife caught the service advisor on the phone with another customer telling them that their car too had a flat. It all seemed so much more than coincidental.
Lol
There are several motion detector 360 degree cameras for cars out there in the roughly $400 range; large SD memory cards will set you back another $100 or so. Smaller cards might work if the neighborhood doesn’t have much activity at night.
