Constituents Blast AOC: ‘Her Heart Is Not in the Bronx’

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) has been getting a lot of attention since being sworn in to Congress earlier this year, but her constituents aren’t all that thrilled with their 29-year-old congresswoman, according to a story published in the New York Post over the weekend.

“I thought AOC would be our savior, but that’s not the case,” Roxanne Delgado, a local activist told the Post.

Delgado has reportedly been trying “for months” to get in touch with Ocasio-Cortez about saving an animal shelter and cleaning up parks in the district.

According to the Post, Delgado “has made numerous calls to Ocasio-Cortez’s offices in Washington and Queens and sent a barrage of tweets after the freshman lawmaker encouraged residents during a recent visit to a Bronx public library to hit her up on social media.”

But Delgado has not heard anything from Ocasio-Cortez’s office.

Delgado is not the only constituent who is upset with the lack of representation from Ocasio-Cortez.

“I want AOC or a representative from AOC to be there,” Anthony Vitaliano, a former cop and Community Board 11 member said at a Feb. 28 board meeting according to the Post. “You know, I appreciate what she’s doing, but she has to represent us.”

“She has to address these local issues. Her district is everywhere else in the US. Her heart is not in The Bronx,” Vitaliano told the Post.

This lack of response from Ocasio-Cortez’s office is very different from what constituents received under former Rep. Joe Crowley, according to the Post:

By contrast, he said, residents’ needs received much more attention under Rep. Joe Crowley, whom Ocasio-Cortez unseated in a surprise primary upset last year.

The longtime congressman’s Bronx district representative, Thomas Messina, regularly attended community board meetings, according to Vitaliano.

“Tommy cared about us,” Vitaliano said.

The Post noted that Ocasio-Cortez has yet to open an office in the Bronx, which makes “access all the more challenging for her constituents.”

Don't they know she's on a special mission and she has only twelve years to save the planet? And they're worried about an animal shelter?

She isn’t from the Bronx. Why would anyone expect her heart to be there?

She is trying to save the earth through the magic of socialism. In her mind she is already Chief Commissar of the Socialist Republic of America. She has no time for the little people of Bronx who were foolish enough to trust her.

Politics aside, isn’t stuff like this more the domain of local politicos and not members of congress?

You mean they don’t want the great green ecotopia without cars planes or electricity in the Bronx? I’m shocked.

Typical of self centered constituents who think their petty concerns deserve the attention of the most important person in Washington. Grow up people. Fix your own animal shelter. She must spend all of her limited resources on paying her staff a living wage and promoting the Green New Deal. An office in the Bronx is out of the question and will not serve the interests of her real constituents, wackos of the world.

Politicians only respond when you throw lots of $$$$ at them.
Same for Socialists and Communists.

Don’t give an airborne rodent’s rump where her heart is, just want her cortex off the game board.

Seductive and destructive at the same time.

Vote her out or find an ethics violation as soon as is appropriate.

I post this from time to time. It is a link to the AOC articles posted here at FR.
There's a lot of info about Cortez on those threads.
She doesn't have the FReepers fooled one bit. This will come back to haunt her too.

That's funny - when that guy from Queer Eye called about remodeling her office, she got back to him on the same day.

Maybe AOC is confused about her job description?

She has to address these local issues.

Local issues should be addressed by local authorities, or by the civil society. Running off to your congressthing over every local problem is grossly misguided.

AOC was put into office by a bare majority of only 13% of registered voters in her district.

Someone needs to figuratively (if not literally!) knock some sense into The Young Turks' Cenk Ugyur, who promoted her in the first place.
